Snakehead Fingerlings Found In Potomac River System - DrownedDesertRat - 10-17-2004 Snakehead Fingerlings Found In Potomac River System RICHMOND, VA—The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) announced last week that a juvenile northern snakehead was collected from Dogue Creek in Fairfax County-the first fingerling snakehead ever found in the river. Biologists say the 3-inch fingerling is likely the result of a mid-summer spawn, which suggests that a northern snakehead population is now established in the Potomac River system. There's stories of Muskies attacking people once in a long while here. These things are much more ferocious. I wouldn't want to swim in the waters over there! And ti will definitely be detrimental to the natural fish. Hopefully the fingerlings were euthanized. Possibly they should place a small bounty on snakeheads??? Might help people kill them. [signature] |
