Suprise! - gvanzant - 11-11-2004 My son was fishing backside Catalina in 100 feet of water. The yellows were acting up and they had landed 4 fish. He cast a flylined dine out in the prime area and got a weird pick-up and after a weird fight landed a 30 pound halibut. We all know that halibut prefer the bottom but this butt picked up that dine in about a depth of 10 feet, 90 feet from the bottom. I have seen halibut boiling on bait in the surf where the bottom depth is less than 10 feet but this incident is s first. There seems to be alot of bait boils going on near the surface. I would have loved to see the look on his face with that big ole Butt at that depth.[cool] I pulled in an 8lb Sandy a couple weeks ago with almost the same tacktic at a similar depth. Yesterday on the 'shoe' this guy fishing along the port side caught a sheepshead that was hooked about 10 feet down. We were in about 130 foot of water! Next thing bat rays are gonna start flyin' and buzz the boat! JapanRon [signature] Re: [JapanRon] Suprise! - tubeN2 - 11-20-2004 Hey JR! When the batrays start flying, then we will probably be able to catch 50lb lings from the Santa Monica Pier.[pirate]ha ha [signature] |
