Pineview 1/23/05 - BEARCLAW - 01-23-2005

Fished the narrows this morning with a few friends. Ice was 5-7 inches thick. Temps were nippy until about noon, The wind wasn't strong but just enough to put the chill on. We fished in 55 feet of water. The fish were suspended at all levels. We would watch the finders and follow the schools. I was lowering and raising my line all morning and we manged to catch 30 perch between us. I also caught 3 small crappie which were suspended at about 25 ft. The perch wer anywhere from 4-7 inches and definately smaller than (on the anerage) than what we've seen in years past, but we all knew that. Didn't see a single other fisherperson all morning, just the three of us.

[black]See any big marks, like musky on the sonar?. If the ice is thick enough for a sled, I'd like to try my luck for muskies thru the ice. Thanks for the report![/black]

The finders were marking fish almost non-stop. Definately marked some large fish. The bite was extremely light with most fish only bumping the jig once or twice. You had to keep your pole in hand or you'de miss the strike. Forgot to mention we used ratso's tipped with waxworm and/or perch meat about 18" below a castmaster. Strike indicators were a must.. Hope this helps..
