Strawberry - 03/13/05 - midge - 03-14-2005 First trip to the Berry this year and it wasn't disappointing, unlike my previously ice fishing trips this year, minus R-port . I fished from 8 am till 4 pm today. I landed around twenty cutts and missed and/or long released about that many as well. All slot cutts with the smallest being 17" and the largest just under 22". I fished between 24' - 31' with the best success occurring in 30' of water. I used the same setup the entire day: 1/8oz chartuese jig with white paddlebug sweetened with a waxie and a drop of smelly jelly. The weather was nice until about 4 pm and suddenly the wind picked up. I just wish I didn't waste the last couple of weekends at Causey - shame on me! midge Re: [midge] Strawberry - 03/13/05 - Fishcrazy - 03-14-2005 Thanks for the report, glad you got into some willing fish. What part of the lake were you fishing? Was there any slush?[ ![]() MIKE [signature] Re: [Fishcrazy] Strawberry - 03/13/05 - midge - 03-14-2005 Fishcrazy, I fished Chicken Creek East and there was no slush, just hard packed snow. Good luck, if you head out! midge Re: [midge] Strawberry - 03/13/05 - tuber - 03-14-2005 Thaks for the report midge. I am probably heading up there next Saturday, so I am glad the fish are still biting. I have had some great days at Chicken Creek but was debating on the ladders. We'll see what happens Tuber [signature] Re: [midge] Strawberry - 03/13/05 - Vanilla - 03-14-2005 How thick was the ice? Just curious if this warmer weather is forcing ice off a little earlier this year. Put it this way, I didn't want to have to drill through it (I only have a hand auger), so I found other holes which iced over and chiseled them open. I watched one gentleman have to go down to his knees to complete drilling the hole since it was so thick. Good luck if you decide to go! midge |
