Can anyone fix my rod? - rgreenland - 03-23-2005 I have a rod that I absolutely love and really don't want to part with. I have had it at least 18 years. Nothing really special about it to anyone other than myself. It is getting old and I still want to use it. There are couple line guides (eyes) that need to be fixed. The thread that held them on is now gone and are currently being held in place by electrical tape. Sometimes the tape starts to come undone and gets in the way of the line so I have to re-tape it. I doubt that the handle to it can be replaced. I would love for it to have a cork handle. It is currently some kind of foam. The pole once was a 2-piece. I have pulled and pulled but have not been able to get it apart. I have not tried any chemicals or pliers, etc because I don't want to risk damaging the rod. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to take a look at it and possibly bring the rod back to life? I am not too concerned about it coming apart, but the line guides really need some help. As I mentioned, its an older rod that only means something to me. So considering the age, etc. my wife refuses to let me spend too much on getting it fixed. Any ideas? I build a lot of rods so I should have all of the stuff. I would have to look at the handle, and I cannot make any promises. A lot of the other parts of the rod rely on the handle and what it is composed of. I do know that we could fix the guides and get you back to fishin' for sure. Send me a pm with your information and we can see if we can hook up. Jake [signature] Re: [rgreenland] Can anyone fix my rod? - crossineye - 03-23-2005 UTWALLEYE DOES CUSTOM WRAPS. I've custome built alot of poles, mostly custome wrap. I have about 20 differant colors of thread. so I could put any color you would like. I could also change the foam to a cork handle. the reel seat would no longer be good after, I have to cut it off. a new reel seat would run about 6 to 10 bucks and the cork would be the most expensive part. about getting the pole apart, becarefull if you apply heat, most furrules are glued on with heat glue. don't use pliers they will crush your pole. put some 2 sided on the pole ubove and below where the pole connects and use the tape to hold, and pull and twist. the tape will help with your grip so your hand don't slip. you might try some wd-40 or bolt off, and let it set for a while. hope this helps. later chuck [signature] |
