Big Cottonwood Crk. 7/6 - Mc_Lennon - 07-06-2005
Since I have my only day off this week today, I headed to the Cottonwood for some early morning troutski action. Started out high(Cottonwood Mall) and ended down low(State St.) In between there I managed a couple of fish. The river was still really high. Infact I've never seen it that high in July before! Kinda scary to fish in some places, and dang near impossible in others. But I tried it anyway. I was chucking a #9 Silver Panther Martin to try and get it deeper into the water. The first few places I stoped were busts. Then I came to a section of creek that I love. I rolled one small brown, then went down to the big hole in the area. That one was a little intimidating, so I didn't cast into it right then. Instead I casted into some calmer water slightly down stream. WHAMO! 8" Brown. I was surprised this little dude even bit. At least it was a trout, though. So I went back up to the big hole. I casted into it a couple times before my line came tight. This time the fish actually took line! That's kinda rare for these little guys I normally catch. Finally I got him up and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was an absolutly georgeous 16" Bonnevile Cutthroat trout!!! Only the second one I've ever caught out of any of the wasatch front streams. I took a quick picture of that big boy and released him. I tried for a few more minutes, then packed up to another spot lower. I had one more brown on for the day before it got too dang hot and I wanted to quit.
I wish I could have caught a few more fish, but it's alright. 2 with those water conditions is really good. I wouldn't recomend fishing that river unless you really know it, and then prayers don't hurt. I'm begining to wonder if it'll even be down by August. If it is, hold on. Them fish are going to be hungry and into slaming lures!

[cool]Nice report, Mc_Lennon! I might have to give that creek a try in a month or so. I was out with family doing stuff Saturday night, so I missed the Floyd reunion, but I think you can still watch the clips on AOL music.com, so I think I might check that out!

I'm gonna have to go check that out. I caught the last couple of songs. That was just so awsome to see, especially after Waters said there'd never be a reunion! I just hope they tour and come to Utah! Heck, for that one I'd go anywhere. Los Angles, New York, the Moon...
