Outboard water pump question - pennyfarmer - 07-13-2005

I just purchased a 67'-68' 6 hp Merc. It was not pumping water and I need to know a good place to take it for a water pump and tune up. I live in Ogden. Here is a pic of the boat right after I finished painting it. If you see me give me a holler and mabey throw me a rope.

P.S. You can't miss it.

I could be wrong, but I have a hunch you won't be hunting ducks from that boat!

Thats a negative. I hooked my friend up with a flat bottom for ducks. So in short I have the fishing boat and he has the duck boat.

The kids really like orange and yellow so that is the colors that got chosen. It has to look fast cause it isn't.

I just ordered the parts from oldmercs.com. I figure I am definatly intelligent enough to do it myself. So if I screw it up I will be in the market for a new one. hehe. I am glad the wife loves me and puts up with my crap cause when I told her I was doing it my self she said "Sounds like lots of swear words to me.". Yeh and a few beers for me and my buddy.

becarfull when putting it back together, I did mine and when I was done I had a lower unit water leak into the oil. before taking it apart
put the motor in gear, mercury motors have to be in gear to remove the lower unit. later chuck

Hi John,

I don't know much about Lee's Marine service, but I sure got a run around on a new outboard from them, I ended up going to Buckboard Marina, at the Gorge. They took care of me in fine fashion and they have a very good mechanic. Also a good place for repairs is, Reed's Motor & Marine (Jim McKee), in Manilla. Be just a nice drive for you. [Wink]

I live in sugarhouse and if you'd like to bring it by I'll help you with it and show you so you can do it yourself next time.

Thanks for the invite. I do not have the parts yet. I also ordered a service manual so if I have any questions I will try to contact you.

I will be right by your place this weekend because I have reserves up at Fort Douglas. Thanks again.
