Fishlake 8-5 - FishN2Dmax - 08-07-2005

[Smile] I rented a cabin at Fishlake to spend a few quiet days with my lovely wife as part of our planned anniversary get-away trip. My wife is not at all into fishing so we agreed I could go out fishing early in the morning and spend the rest of the day doing things together. I slipped out really early and took my boat for a few hours of fishing. I noted many small fish on the sonar at the 20-30' range, so I lead lined out 5-6 colors and immediately got into small 12-14" rainbows & splake using a "silver trout killer" hook/ lure with a worm behind small pop gear. I couldn't keep them off! I was having so much fun I called my wife on our FRS/GRMS radios and told her she needed to come out on the boat and see what fishing is all about. She agreed and I picked her up at marina. After I landed and released a few more small rainbow, I decided to use the downrigger and go deep for the mac's. Using a Red/White "trout killer" and worm ( no pop gear), I went down to 70' and approx 1.8 MPH following the Northern side of the "Mac Run" ( East from Bowery haven area). Within 20 minutes, I hooked into a fat 3.5 lb rainbow and a few minutes later a baby 5.75 lb Mac. I had three more hard hits and one larger Mac ( est 10-12lb) to the boat before it came off while I was trying to net it. I've caught many, many Mac's vertical jigging at Flaming Gorge, but this is my first experience with Fishlake Mac. I did note the Fishlake Mac are just a bit more grey and with not quite as much color on the fins as the Flaming Gorge Mac/lakers?

My Wife got excited seeing the bigger fish and wanted to take pictures before I released them. She was finally getting into the spirit of fishing when sky decided to pour down. I'll post the pic's when I get them scan from film. Great Trip! Maybe by our next anniversary, she'll also be my best fishing buddy? [Wink]
