Where the HECK did the boils go? - Topehaw - 08-29-2005 Someone out there please help me understand the bay. Many time i go and leave that lake with nothing, then few weeks back went again and we sat in the middle of a boil for 90 minutes. I'm itch'n to get out again although reports are coming from those trolling and not surface action. why did it stop, and will they pick up again? All insight is greatly appreciated. Re: [Topehaw] Where the HECK did the boils go? - wiperhunter2 - 08-30-2005 You were lucky to get into a boil this time of the year, surface activity is more the normal. There had been a lack of minnows up to the point where the boils started, so the wipers went nuts when those first shad appeared. Now you will be seeing more surface activity than boils but you can still catch the wipers, it is just a little harder. The fall is when the boils will start again, in years past that has been the middle or end of Oct., Nov. & Dec., depending on the temperatures. Don't give up, just change the way you go after them and read all the post of the people that are catching them, good luck. Or was that just speculation since the boils have subsided? In years where the shad numbers are low there can be a second or even a third spawn. After seeing the small ones last weekend, my guess is they have had a second spawn already. If that is the case, then speculation should come to an end. I think the reason the boils have stopped is because there is more than enough food in the water and the wiper don't need to boil to get those baby shad. Later in the fall when the shad numbers are down again we will see boils again, unless of course the shad have a third spawn. WH2 [signature] |
