Success at Deer Creek - Gloomis - 12-23-2005

yesterday was the most beautiful day to go fishing. my setup was on the bottom. i left about 2 1/2 feet from hook to sinker, and used chartreuse (green) glitter powerbait. knocked them dead. there was no ice on the lake by 2:00pm. water is low enough to fish the island. thats where we had the success. good fishin to all!!

Sounds like fun! I'll bet the weather was really nice for fishing as well.

This is a report from Twolves from yesterday:
"Went to Deer Creek today from 1-4. started off at wallsburg, nothing, not even a bite, my car got stuck in the snow, some kind civilian pulled over after we flagged him down, so he got us out. decided i didnt like the smell of the skunk in the air. decided to try a place i have never tried. we went to the first boat harbor nearest the dam. cant remember the name of it. we went down by the boat launch. first cast and i got a bite, missed him. fished there for another 30 minutes no action. i was about to give up, but i decided to walk 50 yards North of where i was fishing and try. i casted my powerbait, yeah, i am usually a artificial lure only guy. i had my line out for only 30 seconds and i got a slam. i hooked her, she was 19 inches and full of eggs. second cast after that 1 minute latter bam, caught another 19 inch female. third cast 3 or 4 minutes later, bam caught a 14 inch. we ended up catching 7 between my brother and I. I will post the pics tomorrow, if i can get the digital camera, hooked up. we also missed about 5 a piece. if you go use rainbow colored powerbait."

Yesterday 12/22 we were trolling again on Deer Creek and did very well. Caught a couple nice browns and a lot of fat rainbows, some 18 to 20 inches long. Some of the bows were in spawning colors and when caught streamed milt. The weather was great. 47 degrees at 9:00 and in the 50s at 12:30 when we pulled out. The ice that was forming the week before was broken up and flooting around, had to keep and eye out for it. Some one put in in a pontune just before we left. A lot of people on the island and a school bus full of jr. high students from Kerns Jr. High hit the shore south of the ramp. They ssaid it was a field trip. If this weather keeps up we'll be trolling till spring. Oh how is the ice holding up at strawberry? I wanted to go this next week.
