HELP, need information on Shakespeare reel - Steven - 01-13-2003 Does anyone out there have any experience with the Shakespeare synergy steel spin casting reel? I bought one for my daughter and all the line ran off it this past weekend. I can't figure out how to get the darn cover off the thing to replace the line. It appears to be locked on with two tabs on either side of the front cover. I did everything short of butchering the covering trying to get it loose and no luck. I don't want to ruin this little reel, it didn't cost much but it seems to be a fairly good reel. If anyone has any experience with it I would be very happy to hear from you. A picture and description of it can be found at the following web site: http://www.shakespeare-fishing.com/products/reels/synergy-steel2000.shtml This is really bugging me as I've never met a reel I couldn't disassemble before. I am pretty sure the front and rear covers are pressed on, and the little indentations or tabs are locked into the middle section in some manner. Anyway, I don't want to tear the thing up trying to figure out how to get it apart. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Steve [signature] Re: [Steven] HELP, need information on Shakespeare reel - davetclown - 01-16-2003 [center][/center][center]Note that there is two covers that you line goes through.[/center] [center]Both pivot 1/2 inch to the left[/center] [center]If they feel tight don’t force, you will probably need a solvent of some type. I use liquid wrench three or four drops and allow it to work its way around. Place the solvent on the two tabs and sparingly on the seam around the reel. Clean off the solvent after you get the cover off. [/center] [center]The inner cover is plastic the out side cover is metal[/center] [center]To take the inner cover ring off make sure that you have released the casting mechanism in the back so that the thread cock is in the in position on the spool. [/center] [center]Thread your line through both covers and tie on to the spool replace the covers and reel on your new line.[/center] [center]Do the same when placing the inner cover back on. Once apart it was (of course) simple to see how they (Shakespeare) put this reel together. This is probably the 100th plus spin casting reel I've owned over the years and I had never come across something as tightly attached as this one was. The locking mechanism is also a little unusual in that on most spin cast reels the front cover actually screws off and is threaded on the cover and the middle section. Anyway, the cover is off, the new line is on and my daughter is ready to fish again. Thanks again, Steve [signature]
