Two pole permit - RiverRat77 - 02-16-2006
Question for guys like the Dude or anyone else that fishes or packs two poles or more with them. If I have another pole rigged up on my tube or strapped across my back if I"m out wading... do I need a two pole permit? I'd only be fishing with one at a time because I'm so simple that I can only handle looking at or using one pole at a time.... I've tried watching two at the same time and it makes my eyes hurt.... [
] But seriously, you guys that look like a floating radio tower on the water, do you have to have two pole permits for that or can you take more gear with you than you actually fish with? Should I just go get the two pole permit to be on the safe side? Their still only about ten bucks right??[signature]

You're fine as long as you're not using two at once. If you have two lines in the water at the same time you need a 2 pole permit.

[#0000ff]Ranger_rat has it right. The law specifies that you can only USE one rod at a time, if you do not have the two pole permit. Simply carrying an arsenal of sticks does not make you a violator.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Typically, when tubing in waters that allow two rods (with permit), I will drag around a minnow or cut bait on one rod, while casting lures with the other. On a slow day, I may put out two different baits and take a snooze while holding the lines from each rod in my fingers. [/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Basically any waters that are not considered to be a managed trout fishery. These include Pineview, Willard, Utah Lake, Yuba Reservoir and a few others. Check the proclamation. They are listed there.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As a simple guideline, think any water that has catfish, walleye and/or bass. Most of these waters have a few trout too, but they are not stocked or monitored.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Definite no-nos are Jordanelle, Strawberry, East Canyon, Lost Creek, Causey, Bear Lake, Da Gorge, Fish Lake, etc. Heard tell of a "CIA" CO on Strawberry a couple of weeks ago that was sneaking up on closed ice shanties and pulling surprise inspections for two pole fishermen. Probably got a few too.[/#0000ff]

1) A person may use a second pole to take fish only in the following waters:
(a) Bear River from the Idaho state line downstream, including Cutler Reservoir and
the outlet canals;
(b) D.M.A.D.;
© Flaming Gorge Reservoir;
(d) Gunlock Reservoir;
(e) Gunnison Bend;
(f) Hyrum Reservoir;
(g) Lake Powell;
(h) Little Bear River below Valley View Highway (SR-30);
(i) Malad River;
(j) Newton Reservoir;
(k) Pelican Lake;
(l) Pineview Reservoir;
(m) Starvation Reservoir;
(n) Utah Lake;
(o) Willard Bay Reservoir; and
(p) Yuba Reservoir.
I'll probably get banned for correcting TubeDude, but Flaming Gorge is on the list.
