Report from Rivers End Tackle - gdn443 - 04-21-2006 2006 STRIPED BASS- Its full swing in the Connecticut River with stripers, mostly schoolies, being caught in its entire flow through the state. Schoolies have been taken in good numbers in the lower River for almost 2 weeks. Some of the best action has been along Great Island, where small plastic tailed leadhead jigs have been the best scorers. In the last few days we has some reports of bass hitting surface and sub-surface lures such as slug-gos. Most of the bass are way under keeper size with enough 2 footers to keep it interesting. A few keepers have been caught. From shore the Causeway and the Lieutenant River have been scoring well. This is about the peak for numbers of bass, the sizes should increase and the quantity decrease as we get into May. Theres been adult bunker in Bridgeport Harbor and Peconic Bay. We will have eels starting this weekend. FLOUNDER- The Niantic River has the most activity lately. Theres been some relatively decent catches coming from the upper parts of the river. Theres also been a rumor of a few flats caught at the mouth of the Connecticut River but thats not verified. BLACKFISH- Not too many reports coming in. Theres still a week left of the season. We'll have green crabs for the weekend. SEMINARS- This Saturday we'll be giving a seminar on how to rig eels and eel-skin plugs. Eels are going to be harder and more expensive to get as we get to late summer this year. Learn how to make better use of this dwindling resource. Rigged eels have been used for almost a century to take bass and they're just as effective today. April 29th- Saltwater Fly Fishing School with Lou Tabory and Q Kresser May 6th- The Butterfly Jigging Teshnique with the Shimano Pro Staff. HOURS- We'll be open this Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 5pm. Next Monday through Friday we'll be open from 7am to 6pm. Rivers End Tackle [signature] |
