Anderson Ranch 7/9 - Lunddude - 07-11-2006

I am a new member to BFT, infact I joined just before fishing the wiper tournament at Willard Bay (Utah) in May. That tourney was alot of fun and I got to meet some real nice people from the Utah board. I have really enjoyed reading the fishing reports on the Utah site and now the Idaho site. After reading about Packfans trip up here for the kokes at Anderson it got me fired up to go give it a try. And after reading all the good advice and tips from Kodiak & Aluma I had a pretty good head start. Me and Steph (wife) were on the water and fishing by 8:00 am. I think there was maybe two other boats out. My good freind Curt Cambell and his wife Patty also came up from Twin Falls with their boat and met us at the dock. After reading Packfans post about the red needle fish with the silver blade and the good luck he had I decided to start out with my side planer boards ( I run the Otter Boats from Big Jon). Running two poles off the front deck I set one pole up with the Needle Fsh and about 20 feet up the line I attached a 1/2 oz. snap weight then let out about another 80-100 feet of line then cliped it to the guide line and sent it down to the Otter Boat. On the second pole I used a Triple Teaser in lime green and did the same hookup only on this one I put a 3/4 oz. snap weight. My plan was to run 4 poles (both me and Steph have two pole permits) the two on the front off the planer boards and two out the back on the down riggers, yea right like that was going to happen!! The pole with the Needle Fish started producing within 5 minutes of hitting the water and every fish made it to the net and in the boat. I never had time to get the other two poles in the water. Steph drove the boat and did the netting and I kept busy riggin and reelin. We had real good steady action for the first couple of hours then it slowed a little. We fished mostly from Curlew down past the mouth of Lime Creek and then looped back towards Curlew. I wanted to fish up in Lime Creek but we never did just because to many recreation boaters so we stayed out of there. After a nice shore lunch in the shade and letting Lucy (our Lab) go for a swim we set out for some afternoon fishing. With the increased boat traffic by now the planer boards were not as effective so we put them away and broke out the downriggers. With this setup I used my two line counter reals and put a small set of Cowbells on each one. One of the small Cowbells had the brass and silver blades the other one had the hallo grapic strips on silver blades. I ran a Double Whammy on the silver & brass blades tiped with some of the "Magic Shoe Peg Corn" and a Kokanee Killer on the other. I found the best sucess was 75 feet behind the boat and 15 feet down on the down rigger. The DW with the brass & silver blades produced best here. We did lose more fish this method versus the Needle Fish in the A.M. Most fish were all nice 12- 15 inchers perfect for the smoker. We pulled off the lake about 5:00P.M. and headed back to Hailey. In all we brought home 22 nice kokanee and had a great day on the water. Thanks again guys for all the helpful info. Keep sending those reports and I'll do the same.

Sounds like a great trip, I don't know why the skiers have to play so much in Lime Creek, we marked alot of fish in there when the wife and I were up over the 4th and like my report showed for our 2nd day we really hammered them in there skiers and all. You know our boat and we can take some pretty rough water with it but they had us rock'n and roll'n in there, even threw my net off the top of my bimini cover on one of there passes. How did Curt do? We are going to give Willard a try this Friday again I haven't fished it since the walleye tourney.[cool]

Curt went out after the bass first thing. I don't think he did any good though. He was up at the mouth of Lime Creek by noon trolling for Kokanee with leaded line and the big Cannon boards. I think they got a dozen. We will be back at Willard July 22-26. We are staying in space #12 in Cottonwood maybe will see you there.

I didn't fish for the bass this last trip to Anderson, but my cousin who lives in Mt. Home fishes it frequently for the SMB. He mostly Carolina rigs for them with the different Kamakazee plastics and scent. His largest in there was at a tournament 2 years ago that went 6lbs. even. Nice smallmouth for this part of the country. Maybe I'll buzz out and see you on the 22nd.[cool]

Great report Lunddude! Thanks for the specifics on rigging. Very helpful and sounds as though you've been at it for a good while.

Anderson has some really nice smallmouth in it. Infact up until last Sunday that's all I ever fished for at Anderson. I used to fish bass tournaments there every spring and pre fish also. Anderson can be really good early (before Memorial weekend) and late in the fall. I have pics of a October fishing trip with all fish between 2 and 3 pounds. But they are alot harder to find this time of year. A friend of mine told me years ago they would catch nice smb in Anderson while they were trolling for trout with floating rapalas in a 100 foot plus water depth, go figure.

If you fish the Tournaments at Anderson you may have run in to my Cousin Ken from Mt. Home. Same last name as mine. He runs an Astro, White with a dark blue wide stripe, also has a windshield on the boat, and a 200hp Merc.He really knows that lake as he has been fishing it for over 30 years. He combines his fall deer hunt with bass fishing every year, and has packed many a buck out in the bow of his boat. I use to always go up in late April or May when ever the water temp hit around 50 degrees, usually in the afternoon when it would warm the back of the bays we could really hammer them. I haven't done that for a few years as I got involved in the walleye at Yuba that time of the year and would leave my 5th wheel down there throughout the summer. When that fishery died I moved to Deer Creek for the summer, this is the first year we haven't had our trailer there all summer. Last year the walleye fishing was terrible for me. I liked fishing them there after dark especially under a brite moon. The wife and I are headed to Willard in the A.M. to try for some Cats. I think Tube Dude and his wife will be there also. They are some catfishing fanatics out of their tubes. They have more gadgets and goodies on thier tubes than alot of boaters do and are a great couple and very friendly, Good BFTR'S. Lots a luck in your fishing. It's the wife's birthday this weekend so I can't get away to start scouting for the Bull Tag I drew. Maybe next weekend for a day, then I'll Buzz out to Willard to look you up.

I used to belong to the Magic Valley Bass Club. We would have our tournament on Anderson in the sring. We aslo fished C J Strike. I bet I've seen your cousin on the water that boat sounds firmiiar. He must belong to the MT Home Bass Buster Club. A club out of Burley also used to hold a tournament at Anderson that we fished one year and won. It sounds like me and you got the walleye bug about the same time. I also fished a tournament at Yuba a few years back and got hooked on Yuba. We did a vacation the next year and my big fish for the trip was 8 1/2 pounds. That was the start of the decline for the walleye fishing at Yuba. I have also thought about fishing Deer Creek but the reports I read are so so. I have seen the photos of Tubedude and Tubebabe with their fishing set ups and they are quite the rigs. I never knew you could get so many poles on a tube LOL. I also drew a controlled bull elk tag for unit 45/52. And a November 10-24 traditional muzzleloader mule deer hunt for unit 52A. Looks like I better get all the fishing in I can get because it looks like a pretty busy fall. It would not be so bad if this working for living would stop getting in the way LOL.
