Three Days Of Greyling - neveronsunday - 08-02-2006 [red][size 3]I haven't posted for a while so thought I'd share some stories and pics. [red][size 3]We backpacked into Round, Sand and Fish Lakes for three days. There were lots of little Cutts and Greyling in Round; kids had a blast. We didn't put a line in Sand but could see hundreds of fish cruising the clear water along the shoreline. Didn't hook up with anything but Greyling in Fish. [red][size 3]Some young men heading down as we were hiking up said they found the Brookies in the south corner but I could never chase them down. There was a pure black Mayfly hatching the whole time we were there. I used up every black fly in my box. I had my last one on a water bobber that got a weak spot in the leader so I snapped it off and accidentally dropped it in the water in front of me. [red][size 3]Before I could reach down to pick it up a fish grabbed it and ran off with it for me with two feet of leader and all. [red][size 3]Truth be told the fish would hit anything that was floating high on the water. If you pulled something just below the surface with a water bobber they were a little more picky. [red][size 3]Never had a bite on any kind of spinner, spoon, or lure of any kind. [red][size 3]Speaking of bugs, the mosquitoes and biting flies were atrocious. The clouds would roll in every afternoon for a light sprinkling that would calm them a little but we did have a dry lightning strike not far from our camp that turned a full size tree into chopped cord wood blasted into a 50 yard radius, yikes! A few made it close to 12" but I'm afraid they are no longer swimming. Nothing like a campfire baked greyling on a good pack trip. I'll probably wander up again in Sepember, weather permitting, if anyone would like to tag along. I want to climb the peak above it with the binoculars just to enjoy the view of the backside of the Notch Mountain area - in between casts that is. [/size][/red] [signature] |
