Live Bait? - fuzzyfisher - 08-05-2006 ok guy's and girl's of the fishing world let's hear what you realy think on this mater.. i for one think live Bait should be a option in certain waters here in utah.. and this is why i think so: if a bait fish is alredy in a lake, river, stream.. there is no way you are going to harm it by catching said bait from that body of water and useing it as bait in that body of water! or as a lot of other states use live bait, as a restocking tool of bait fish for game fish.. just think going to starvation stoping at the DWR aproved bait store stocking up on some fresh live chub out of strawberry.. paying say 5.00 a dozen.. fish all day when your done just throw whats left in the lake and go home.. your restocking the lake and paying to do it.. i still think TRANSPORTING live bait should be Prohibited.. and a very stiff fine should be handed out for that! it's not the fishing with live bait that get's fish from one lake to another! it's the transporting of live fish that dose! [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - ironworker - 08-05-2006 i agree 100% with you fuzzy. we used to live in star valley, wyo. and we used live bait all the time. used to catch some really big fish. i don't think it would hurt the lakes in utah at all. [cool] [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - TubeDude - 08-06-2006 [cool][#0000ff]There are a whole lot of Utah transplants that were used to effectively using live bait in other states. That is only one of the laws that has us scratching our heads. [/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I'm assuming that the unwanted introduction of chubs into "pristine" waters is only part of the issue. Most of the "restrictive" regulations seem to have something to do with not giving anglers an unfair advantage when fishing for hatchery pets. Anything (like corn) that will catch more trout is agin the law.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Count your blessings though. Change is slow but does happen. I remember the days before any waters had two pole permits. I also was part of the lobby to get more lakes open to ice fishing. It was funny though. At first you couldn't even keep trout caught through the ice.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Be patient...but don't stop making noise. In the long run that is what gets things done.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] Live Bait? - fuzzyfisher - 08-06-2006 hey dude you forgot to vote? [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - TubeDude - 08-06-2006 [cool][#0000ff]I'm under age. Bwa ha ha ha ha.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - lunkerhunter2 - 08-06-2006 Live bait all the way!! There just needs to be a heightened "watch" for bucketeers. I used live bait in a large reservoir and it was sweet to watch the fish pound them after they stalked them. Although Fuzzy, you said you don't approve of transporting live bait but you said something about stopping at the "bait store" and picking up some live chubs. I am lost as to what you are trying to say.[crazy] Anyway, i would love to pick up a couple dozen goldies from walmart and hit willard durring the walleye spawn or pitch some into a boil.[cool] [signature] Re: [lunkerhunter2] Live Bait? - fuzzyfisher - 08-06-2006 what i ment by picking up some bait at a DWR aproved store.. is that the bait would be transported by a licensed vender to a lake side stand if you will.. and sold at the lake they are intended for.. [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - ocean - 08-06-2006 Some things about live bait i like and dislike.I like it because you have the opportunity to catch larger fish especially when the fishing is tuff.On the other hand usually with live bait a biggger fish will swallow the hook and end up die eventually if its released.[] [signature] Re: [ocean] Live Bait? - fuzzyfisher - 08-06-2006 you know ocean.. i have never gut hooked a fish useing live bait.. i have tho gut hooked ton's of fish on dead bait! [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - ocean - 08-06-2006 The only live bait i ever used was in the ocean. If i used circle hooks then it was always in the corner of the mouth. But when i didnt use circle hooks usually the bottom feeders would swallow the bait and hook to their stomachs.Fresh water fish on the other hand i have no experience with live bait so i will take your word. [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - Theekillerbee - 08-06-2006 I agree with you Ron. I like TD think it will eventually come, it will just take some time. [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - Mc_Lennon - 08-06-2006 I'd support that 100%. I'd love to drop some live minnows on big old Bass... or brownies... or lakers... or walleyes... Heck, I'd just like live bait period. In the mean time I can always reel in a little fish REALLY slow... LOL![][][] Re: [Mc_Lennon] Live Bait? - trollinfool - 08-06-2006 Think that would make it possible to pick up a bucket of gizzard shad at the willard marina! Or possibly hook a perch at pineview and use it to catch a BIG Musky?....... Cheers gentlemen heres to dreaming! (trollinfool tips back a long neck). I think it would be great on some fisheries, i mean if you can chum at Lake powell then why not live bait at other designated lakes. [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - lunkerhunter2 - 08-06-2006 Thanks Yuzzy, i was just wondering.[cool] [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - CROSSINEYES - 08-07-2006 i whole heartedley agree... dremmed of that for ever. can you imagine the big eyes.. [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - quetepuni - 08-07-2006 Fuzzy is right in saying that transportation is the big problem. Utah already has enough trouble with the transportation of live bait now, when it is illegal. (How many Southern Utah waters have been threatened or impacted by golden shiners brought up from Las Vegas?) If live bait were legal, just imagine how much worse the transportation and illegal stocking problem would be. I, for one, hope the regulation does not change--in fact, I don't believe it will. The consequences are too frightening. [signature] Re: [quetepuni] Live Bait? - fuzzyfisher - 08-07-2006 Right on dude!! thats what i was asking for.. tho i do not agree with you thats what the poll is all about! i would ask you to think of this tho.. just a thought here.. what if them guy's comeing up from Vagas could buy or catch live bait at the lake they were fishing in from the lake they were fishing in do you think they would still be bringing the Illegal bait? [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - quetepuni - 08-07-2006 "[size 1]what if them guy's comeing up from Vagas could buy or catch live bait at the lake they were fishing in from the lake they were fishing in do you think they would still be bringing the Illegal bait?"[/size] [size 1][/size] [size 1]Absolutely. Because then, in their minds, they're breaking only one law (no transporting live fish) instead of two (no transporting, no using live bait). Less risk=lawbreakers feeling more comfortable. [/size] [size 1]The point is, allowing more leeway on this issue increases the danger. Illegal introduction is one of the top threats to Utah fisheries--we shouldn't shoot ourselves in the foot by making it easier.[/size] [size 1]Anybody else out there think this is a bad idea?[/size] [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - Tarponjim - 08-08-2006 Regardless of the bucket/transport issue, what ever happened to the "sport" in sportfishing? Who needs live bait? Any fool can toss out a live bait, the actual food that the fish eat. What's gonna happen? The fish is going to eat it! Surprise, surprise! So what. I say outlaw live bait nationwide! Any fool can put a live bait on a hook and catch a fish. That's no challenge. It takes no skill other than possibly knowing how to cast and put a hook in the bait. There's no suspense. The fish IS going to eat it. There's no effort. It's easy enough to fool a fish with all the great artificial baits available. Heck man, why even bother when you know the result? [signature] Re: [fuzzyfisher] Live Bait? - Coldfooter - 08-08-2006 I feel the use of live bait was a god given right taken away by people with so call good intentions. Those making the rules concerning the use of live bait seem to me to be speaking out of both side of the faces at the same time. After all, we're allowed to use live mudbugs as bait in the waters in which their captured, why not mini's? Whats more, if the use of live bait captured and used in those same waters happends to produce a trophy fish for a "fool" with less know-how,, so be it. It makes for a life long story to be told by that person and it didnt cost he/she their left leg to do so.... [signature] |
