East Canyon Tournament last Saturday - bmac2 - 09-11-2006
We fished a bass tournament last Saturday on East Canyon. Moose and I took 3rd, behind Skeeter/Gill and Cliff Gallager and his partner. It took over 14 lbs of smallmouth to take first place. LOTS of fish caught. The first two place boats were culling fish 30 minutes into the tourney. Lots of crank baits and top water. The fish were fat as pigs. The largest fish weighed 3.34 lbs if I remember correctly. This was a 5 fish limit tournament, so the 14 lbs means the average of the winning bag was 2.8 lbs PER fish.
Most of the fish seem suspended off of points and dropoffs. Early in the day lots of topwater hits. But the largest fish was taken on a sammy topwater around noon. Anyone who likes bass fishing should hit East Canyon. Just don't overthink the fishing, crankbaits and topwaters.
