Lincoln Beach 10-13-06 - TubeDude - 10-14-2006 [cool][#0000ff]TubeBabe and I arrived at LB at the crack of NINE. On the water about 9:30. "Late Start Leaky" woulda been proud on us. We figured that with the cold water, the kitties would probably not be ready to play until the sun worked on the water for awhile. We were right.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Water temp at launch was right at 56 and only warmed to about 58 by the time we left at 3 PM. Air temp was 42 at launch and up to almost 68 at 3. Nice day with mostly smooth water all day. Just a bit of algae bloom as the water warmed, but not nearly as bad as a couple of weeks ago.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Naturally, I tossed all kinds of plastics, trying to find a willing wallie or whitie. Saw lots of fishies on the screen, but didn't see any of them with their little mouths open. Didn't touch either of the target species on plastics but I did get some exercise from a couple of carpkind. One was only about a pound. I invited him home to provide bait strips. The larger one got the customary complimentary gillectomy and was released unharmed.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]TubeBabe had been dragging a minnow on one rod and a piece of carp meat on her other rod. About an hour after we started she scored the first kitty...a 23" 5#er. Good start. I felt encouraged. But, other than the large scaled golden "cats", I was smelling skunk until afternoon.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]TubeBabe was moving all over the area, fishing water from 8 feet to 4 feet. Just before noon she hung a biggun in 6.5 feet of water. It turned out to be her last channel and her biggest of the two. 25" and 6.1#. Oh yeah, she did get one fish in about 5 feet of water...a 12.5 inch chunky bullhead.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I was already making up excuses for blanking on catfish when I got a runner about 1:15...4 hours after hitting the water. I got to spend the next few minutes getting abused by a fish identical to TubeBabe's biggest. They later taped and weighed exactly the same...25" and 6.1 pounds. Hers had more purty spots than mine though.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]We both had several "pop and drop" on minnows and a couple of "brief encounters" on carp meat. All fish landed were caught on minnows. And, almost all the catfish bites came in water from 6.5 to 7.5 feet deep. That is shallower than the last trip I made down there with BFTer "road".[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]The nice weather brought out a bunch of bank tanglers. Most of them lasted about an hour before leaving with nothing. I did not see anyone even act like they had a bite. And, we saw very few fish on sonar within easy casting distance of shore. We did see lots of fish on sonar to the south of the channel entrance, but could find only a few isolated and suspended fish to the north. Whazzup widdat?[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] Lincoln Beach 10-13-06 - Flycasting - 10-14-2006 Nice report and pics as usual. Those walleye just have not cooperated this year. Now I assume you released those beautiful carp "unharmed"! He he. [signature] Re: [TubeDude] Lincoln Beach 10-13-06 - 2fishon - 10-14-2006 I fished Lindon today from about 2:30 until 4:30. It was terrible. I haven't seen a good day at Utah lake since Labor Day. I hope it livens up soon, the freezer is almost empty. [signature] Re: [2fishon] Lincoln Beach 10-13-06 - TubeDude - 10-14-2006 [cool][#0000ff]Cheer up. The "close-in" catfish action is probably about done for the year, but the white bass and crappies will soon be coming into the harbors for the winter. Might be some walleyes too.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Usually sometime after the first of November each year, when there is enough water in the harbors, the white bass school up in the protected spots. You can get them by fishing a piece of bait under a bobber or on the bottom. They will also hit jigs or small spoons dropped next to docks.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]The catfish can be caught even through the winter, if you find them. They are slow and don't feed much, but they may be taken in the coldest water and through the ice too. However, from now until about April, don't look for many of them to show up within casting distance of shore around most of the lake.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [Theekillerbee] Lincoln Beach 10-13-06 - TubeDude - 10-14-2006 [cool][#0000ff]But of course.
