Deep Creek res. - maniac - 11-13-2006 Went to Idaho for a little Trout action Saturday morning, fished with Rapala's, spinners, tubes, grubs, Maniac Minnows, Ice Cut'rs and yes my friend Kelly even used night Crawlers. The Maniac Minnow in two inch worked pretty good, the tubes were fair producers, but the ice Cut'r in the Predator color and Crazy Glow were the best producers. We started fishing the Ice Cut'r on a drop shot rig with good results, but it produced the best results fished on an 1/8 oz plain jig head. The fish were anywhere from the surface to 25 ft deep. Most fish came from 4' to 12' deep. Biggest fish was three pounds. No bait needed! water temp was 43 deg. It was a very productive day! A friend went there several weeks ago and said that the fish were so loaded with the sores that he could not stand the thought of eating them. Anyone know what causes it? Is achor worms a possibility? Aceu [signature] Re: [acey] Deep Creek res. - maniac - 11-13-2006 Yes they all had the black sores on them, the bigger the fish the more they had on them. I don't know what causes them but the sores are not the same as anchor worms. They are probably some kind of parasite! Let me know if you find out what they are. [signature] Re: [maniac] Deep Creek res. - catchandrelease - 11-13-2006 It is a parasite and that is in them. I know that they look strange but they are harmless to humans. I have eaten the fish out of there several times and haven't had a problem. Another good body of water up that way is Weston. The fish in there are as pink as salmon and don't have any parasites in them. C&R [signature] Re: [Theekillerbee] Deep Creek res. - maniac - 11-13-2006 Yes we did have a good time! It sure beats working or just about anything else. James [signature] Re: [maniac] Deep Creek res. - BrianID - 11-13-2006 Maniac, Thanks for sharing the pictures. Even though they are planters they are still great looking fish. Do you know of any LMB being caught in Deep Creek the last couple years? Too bad it was drained dry in 2003, it use to be a fun little LMB reservoir. [signature] Re: [BrianID] Deep Creek res. - maniac - 11-13-2006 They are all planters in there! No I didn't catch any Bass, most likely the Bass are gone. You wont even see any trout in there much bigger than three pounds, they haven't had time to grow any bigger than that. James [signature] Re: [maniac] Deep Creek res. - BrianID - 11-14-2006 I caught fat 18" trout out of Deep Creek Res in the Spring of 2005. There would be a good population of 5lb+ trout in Deep Creek but too many people keep fish out of there. Few Deep Creek trout live long enough to put on the weight. [signature] Re: [BrianID] Deep Creek res. - maniac - 11-14-2006 We caught a good number of 18" rainbows saturday including a few three pounders, unfortianatly we didn't get good pics of the bigger fish. You are right people take way too many fish out of there. But then again rainbows are a put and take fish and people will take them home. It's no different than any other lake in that respect. There are other small reservoirs that produce bigger fish that actually get more pressure, with the same regulations. We wont mention any of those, not that everyone doesn't know about them already.
