[signature] Re: [Bigcat] Ice fishing pranks - Old_Coot - 11-15-2006 [font "Comic Sans MS"][size 2][#002850]Please ... Do NOT describe the pop can trick here on this forum. It's just not nice. Last time I tried it on a guy, he burst into tears from the immense embarrassment among his piers standing by laughing. He and I haven't fished together since.[#002850][/#002850][/size] [/font] [signature] Re: [Bigcat] Ice fishing pranks - Kent - 11-15-2006 Old coot, if a guy won't fish with you ever again after having a harmless prank pulled on him IMHO it is not a great loss. Here is a link to the notorious pop can trick: [url "http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=226064;search_string=Pop%20can;#226064"]Click here for link[/url] [signature] Re: [Old_Coot] Ice fishing pranks - BearLakeMack - 11-15-2006 [font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]Tell your buddy to quit attending the "Men have Feelings Too Seminars". He's turned into a girlie man! By gawd, man! don't cry! Get even![/size][/black][/font] [font "Comic Sans MS"][size 3][/size][/font] [font "Comic Sans MS"][size 3]I think every rookie should be indoctrinated to the pop can trick and oldsters who have forgot about it too![/size][/font] [signature] Re: [Elkoholic] Ice fishing pranks - N.E.T.O. - 11-15-2006 Didn't start out as a prank, but I've thought about doing this intentionally as a prank since this happened: My cousin and I were ice fishing at Currant Creek a couple years back. Working nights, he always uses his patented "sleeping" technique to catch fish. That is, he falls asleep and 9 times out of ten every time he wakes up and checks his pole, there is a fish on the end of it. Especially at places like Currant Creek and Strawberry. Anyway, we were both fishing and he was sleeping as usual. I noticed that his pole was bouncing a little and was about to wake him when I started getting some action of my own on my pole. I got my fish in and was getting ready to lower my jig back down when my cousin woke up. "Hey!?...Where's my pole?" he said. Apparently, his pole had gone into the hole with a fish on the end of the line! His new bride had just bought that pole for him for Christmas and he was feeling pretty bad about it. He drug out his back-up pole and started fishing with it. A while later, my pole was bouncing a little and I started to bring in what felt like a pretty good fish. I reeled up and found that my jig was still intact, but I had brought up somebody elses line that was tangled and wrapped around my line. Putting my pole aside, I started bring in the line by hand. First up came a pretty nice fish, and I kept bringing the line up and up came my cousins pole! We were both laughing so hard about it we coudn't breath. I've thought many times about pulling that caper intentionally on someone else, but most other people I fish with don't fall asleep that often! I hit my wife with the pop can last year at lost creek and just about everyone on the ice was laughing when she chucked it at me. She called me names for about 5 minutes, but dang it was funny! She was even using my electronics so I had to bluff her a little bit when she questioned the black line going towards her jig. [signature] Re: [Elkoholic] Ice fishing pranks - redbeard - 11-15-2006 I have done about the same thing as N.E.T.O has. Last year at strawberry me and my dad were fishing in the shack and i got a bite. i hooked it and was bringing it up. My dad came over to help me and then we hear SPLASH. we look over and see his pole going down. And he was pretty mad that because i hooked a fish he lost a chance at the big one. LOL! then after i put the fish back i noticed a line around mine.. i was about to cut it but then i decided to bring it up... and up came my dads pole! That is like the 4 or 5 pole we have lost in strawberry. 2 ice fishing and the rest in the boat and float tube. One time my pole went down and at the end of the day i brought up the anker and up came the pole i had lost. Would like to do the pop can trick to my old man this year [signature] Re: [Elkoholic] Ice fishing pranks - petty4life - 11-15-2006 I plead the 5th on knowing anything about a popcan trick[] [signature] Re: [Elkoholic] Ice fishing pranks - Fishcrazy - 11-16-2006 Could you give me the pop can trick too?Just to protect my self[] [signature] Re: [Fishcrazy] Ice fishing pranks - Kent - 11-16-2006 Mike, I gave a link to the pop can trick above. And yes you are at high risk![] [signature] Re: [Elkoholic] Ice fishing pranks - TubeDude - 11-16-2006 [cool][#0000ff]Some of the nastiest "pranks" I have observed (not participated in, mind you) involve "decorating" the ice.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Taking out some fake blood can help create several "diversions". The first is to cover the blade of your ice auger with it and put some on your hand and then start screaming. Watch your fishing buddy come unglued. The look on their face as they try to decide whether to help you or to keep fishing is priceless.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Another way to use it is to pour a pool of it next to the "GPS" spot (boys' room) on the ice. The next person to walk over there freaks when they think one of the group has a real PROBLEM.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]A third way is to use fake blood (or real fish blood and scales) to splatter an unproductive area on the ice and then watch the newcomers zero in on it. There are lots of guys who don't wanna drill their own holes and look for abandoned holes with "evidence" of success. Some of these "hole vultures" will spend all day optimistically waiting for the bite to start. The joke is on you though, if you see them suddenly start catching fish out of your "dry holes".[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]One particularly gross way to adorn the ice is with a mix of vegetable soup and maybe cream of mushroom. Mix up a can of each and keep it in a plastic bag where it will stay warm and pourable. Then dump it outside someones ice shanty...with or without appropriate "sick" noises. When someone with a "tender tummy" opens their flap and sees that stuff they may add to it.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I have also observed guys sticking a fake arm or leg down into a hole, with just the fingers or foot protruding. That is an old halloween trick, but works well out on the ice too.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Okay, everybody knows about the can trick, and messing with lines and all that. One of my best tricks (while a buddy is absent or snoozing) is to cut the gills out of one of my fish (or the whole head) and to attach it to the buddy's ice jig before lowering it back down. When they bring up the fish parts you can say "Hey dude, you might not wanna set the hook so hard".[/#0000ff] [signature] |
