New State Record Tiger Trout - PBH - 11-17-2006 It sounds like there is a new state record Tiger Trout. Rumor has it that a cleaned 9lb Tiger Trout was turned in today! Sounds like the fish was over 30". Too bad the guy cleaned it prior to having it certified. Congrats to the dude who caught it! [signature] Re: [PBH] New State Record Tiger Trout - Theekillerbee - 11-17-2006 Sounds like a great fish! Congrats to the lucky angler. [signature] Re: [Out4Trout] New State Record Tiger Trout - TubeDude - 11-18-2006 [cool][#0000ff]I heard it yesterday, at DWR. I think I remember them saying it came from Palies. Not sure where that is but probably midstate.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] New State Record Tiger Trout - olmoose - 11-18-2006 Palies is above Sterling, down by Manti. That would be a nice tiger. Re: [olmoose] New State Record Tiger Trout - Saberfish - 11-18-2006 I really envy the guy that caught that fish. They fight like no other trout. I hooked one on a trip to Canada, (if I told you the size, you'd call me a liar), I was on a toon, with a fly rod. this fish hit, and it hit like a freight train, was like a big carp under water, and jumped like a tarpon on the surface. It was way too big for the net I had on my toon, a fellow in another toon came over to loan me his large net. The fight was long and hard. When he was ready for the net, the fellow got his camera ready, and I scooped the fish. The fish gave several bigs flips, spit the fly, and broke through the guys net. He was gone, leaving only a great memory and a broken net. It was the highlight of the trip. I can only tell you that that fish would have been the big brother of the fish mentioned above. [signature] Re: [TubeDude] New State Record Tiger Trout - Widastick - 11-20-2006 I fished palies 2 years ago and caught two very nice Tigers. I have family down that way so when I go over its just for a few hours. I know that lake has some huge fish. I have a contact if anyone needs to know if its iced over. It will still be about a month before that lake is frozen. [signature] Re: [Widastick] New State Record Tiger Trout - TubeDude - 11-20-2006 [cool][#0000ff]If nothing else, send me a PM with directions for getting there when it is frozen. [/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]That lake is definitely on my radar. Big tigers get my attention.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] New State Record Tiger Trout - Coldfooter - 11-21-2006 LOL,, big tiggies and thin ice gets my attention..... [] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] New State Record Tiger Trout - Kent - 11-21-2006 I first fished Palies Lake over 40 years ago. I have fished it three or four times since then, with the last time being about three years ago. It is a small and pretty state park. Perhaps there are some large tiger trout in there, but one would likely need to work through a large number of planter rainbows for every decent size fish caught. Here is a link describing it: [url "http://www.waterquality.utah.gov/watersheds/lakes/PALISADE.pdf"]http://www.waterquality.utah.gov/watersheds/lakes/PALISADE.pdf[/url] [signature] Re: [kentofnsl] New State Record Tiger Trout - flyanddrive - 11-21-2006 The only time I ever fished that lake was about 10 years ago and it was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life but I have since learned to laugh at myself. I was on a date and we had rented a canoe there at the park and as I was paddling out I decided I might as well throw a spinner behind us and troll a little. Well about 30 seconds later I had a fish on the line and when I got it to the side of the canoe we both leaned over to check it out. Of course this was the wrong thing to do and over we went! So there we are floundering in the water trying to figure out which end is up but somehow I manage to hang on to my rod and the poor little fishie is still struggling on the other end. He eventually flips off and by this time we have the park ranger paddling over to help out along with a couple of helpful hands actually swimming out from shore to aid in pulling us out of the drink. Needless to say that was the end of our fishing trip since most of the gear was now at the bottom of the lake. Also needless to say she is now married to someone other than myself as I dwell in loneliness.[] It looks like I might need to revisit my past for the chance at some of those fabulous tigers! Thanks for the extra help.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]What is the main food source in the lake, and what baits/lures work best for the bigguns? Also, any particular part of the lake better than another?[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] New State Record Tiger Trout - N.E.T.O. - 11-21-2006 Hey TD, I have fished Palies on more than one occassion. Not this year though. I don't know if you have an electric motor or not on your tube, but NO MOTORS ALLOWED of any kind on that lake. I have not ever caught many fish out of Palies, but I have caught a couple of semi-decent tigers. Just go south on 89, thru Manti and you will see a sign that heads off to the east. Only a couple miles up the road. No real boat ramp either that I recall, but very easy access from the parking lot. You can walk all around it in less than a hour.[/size][/black][/font] [font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3][/size][/black][/font] [font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]We road down there several years ago on our motorcycles and tent camped it. It was great till the sprinklers came on in the camp ground [laugh][/size][/black][/font] [font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3][/size][/black][/font] [font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]If I recall, there is a Golf Course real close also. When we were there, there were a lot of planter size trout, sounds like they grew up. Might have to make a trip or two down south this year coming up. Scofield, and Palies for just two to hit among many others[/size][/black][/font]. [signature] Re: [TubeDude] New State Record Tiger Trout - piscispursuit - 11-21-2006 TD, I've fished there a few times, there is a golf course next to the lake, my bro-in-law and I have done the turf & surf a few times (my golf game leave alot of turf uprooted). Anyway, I've found the best success on the SW side, just out from the dam. I caught a respectable number of fish using Krocodiles which I would cast, let sink completely, then very slow retrieve along the bottom and back through the water column. Brass with red/brown seems to have worked best. [signature] Re: [piscispursuit] New State Record Tiger Trout - TubeDude - 11-21-2006 [cool][#0000ff]Thanks. I was thinking of doing a couple of days down there and hitting Palie, 9 Mile and maybe Yuba. I'm a real masochist.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Hey NETO...Thanks for the info, but I don't do boats and motors much. I'm sure others might appreciate the info though.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] New State Record Tiger Trout - Widastick - 11-21-2006 Word is 9 mile had an great year as far as catching quantity of fish this year. [signature] Re: [Widastick] New State Record Tiger Trout - TubeDude - 11-21-2006 [cool][#0000ff]Yeah, 9 Mile is everybody's "secret" lake. It can kick out some big fat bows at times. It can be "hot and cold" for ice fishing too.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]By the way, if anyone is interested in more details of the record fish, Brett Prettyman will be running the story and pics in his column in Thursday's Tribune. I will post a link for those who do not get that paper.[/#0000ff] [signature] |
