Ice Tent - mktgw - 12-13-2006

I was in Sam's club last night and saw a ice tent called (ICE CUBE). Has any body had any experience with this tent. It's suppose to be big enough for four people and weights 23 pounds.

I have that same tent and love it. Easy to set up and take down and built very well, better then the eskimo they sale at sportsmans. Curious how much are they going for there? I paid 200.00 for mine and feel it is worth every penny!

[cool]You might not wanna know the price, Mike. It could make you Angry when you see that you could have gotten it for like $40 or %50 cheaper at Sams. I had NO IDEA that Sam's sold ice shelters, did you? I wonder which Sams he saw it at, because I doubt it if EVERY Sams along the Wasatch Front has them in stock...

I reslly don't care if I paid more honestly. I like the idea I purchased it from a small tackle shop that is locally owned I am just curious what they are going for there.

Well you gonna let us know how much it is? I am going to get one soon and that one sounds like a good deal depending on the price.

Ok I'll tell you. It's $148.24 They only have about six of them left. I went back last night and got mine. Now I guess I'll have to go use it.

Re: [mktgw] Ice Tent - BMURR - 12-14-2006

Do these things have any type of a floor? Also, is it a pain trying to anchor it down? How much harder or easier is it compared to the typical Frabil ice shacks that you see? Thanks for the help.

Re: [BMURR] Ice Tent - DKSRenegade - 12-14-2006

I have the Eskamo one and it helps to have 2 people to anchor it to the ice. You have to tie ropes to the tent and then screw the anchors into the ice and tie them off. If it is windy while you are putting it up, it is harder to put up. I broke one of the tent side poles when the wind picked up while we were putting the tent up. The wind pushed the pole backwards and caused it to snap at the metal base.
Once the ropes are secure to the ice anchors, the tent is fine. It is also harded to move because you have to untie all the ropes pull out the anchore colapse the tent and then move and do it all over again.
The good thing about the tent is that once it is up, there is a lot of room in it, and the cost is very friendly.
They don't have a floor in them so you can drill holes where ever you want to.

Went to two different Sam's Clubs today and they didn't have any or if they did I did not see them. Just curious which store you were at and where they were at in the store?

I was at the Jordan Landing store. They were down the main aisle headed to the meat department on the west side of the building. There is a display above the aisle.

I bought the eskimo 3. and i love it. the problem with both is the wind likes to pick it up coming under the edges, but they both rock..hmmm now what do i do with my 400.00 tent?lol

SlayerAce -- That's the tent I have. The HT 2-man. You can see from that picture on the link that it has 2 holes cut into the floor. After using it a couple of times, I had my wife sew a patch (piece of tarp) over the backside hole, and just fish out of the front. I put the back of the tent to the wind, and use a couple of screw-in ice stakes to secure it if needed. This way the wind doesn't come up and under into that back hole and freeze you out.
Personally, I really like it. It's very light compared to other options, the price is right, and with the zipper door you can always open up a bit if Mr. Heater overdoes it. In fact, I have 3 of them now, and my sons-in-law each take one.
