Auger Blade Replacement - lavaman - 12-22-2006 Hey how often do you guys replace/sharpen your auger blades? I realize that it depends how often you use your auger, but I'm wondering if I need to replace mine after a year's worth of ice drilling. [signature] Re: [lavaman] Auger Blade Replacement - FISHKING64 - 12-23-2006 Has anyone figured out how to sharpen blades and not screw them up??? [signature] Re: [FISHKING64] Auger Blade Replacement - TubeDude - 12-23-2006 [cool][#0000ff]It is easy to sharpen auger blades...but also easy to mess them up. If you change the pitch of the blades or the point, all you will do after that is make slurpee ice.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]The thing you need to learn is "LESS IS MORE". In most cases the blades do not need major regrinding...just some light touch up on the edges and removing burrs. A few light strokes to resharpen the point and a couple of inches up on the blade can make a world of difference in the "bite".[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]One of the big things to avoid is using the sharpener on the back side of the blade. It has to be a "chisel" edge. If you change that the blades will not dig into the ice. It IS a good idea to use something like a "steel" to remove any burrs on the back edge caused by the sharpening tool.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] Auger Blade Replacement - FISHKING64 - 12-23-2006 Thanks Dude, I now have 4 sets of blades I will do some sharpening on one of them and see if I can figure it out.
