Walt Spruill was honored for his
catch-and-release efforts of sailfish while offshore fishing on the Atlantic
Ocean. He received the award for Top Release Captain for Sailfish in the
Atlantic Ocean. Spruill was presented his awards at the historic Miami
Beach Rod & Reel Club on Friday, February 16, 2007 at TBF's annual awards
ceremony. Spruill currently resides in Hatteras, North Carolina. "The success of TBF's efforts to conserve billfish and other large pelagic
species relies heavily on the volunteer participation of captains, anglers,
and mates in our Tag and Release Program," Ellen Peel, President of TBF,
said. "Walt Spruill's efforts help bring us closer to rebuilding billfish
populations and conserving our oceans." TBF is the world's leading non-profit organization dedicated to advancing
research, socio-economic awareness and public policy to conserve billfish
worldwide, which helps ensure healthy oceans and strong coastal economies.
The Annual Tag and Release Competition contributes significant data for
scientists and decision makers to reveal billfish numbers, movements,
growth, and other factors critical in understanding the species and its
responsible management. |
