PINEVIEW TIGER REPORT!!! - ssabshif - 03-26-2007

Took the boat out for the first trip of the year. Went up to Pineview looking for some Tigers. I did not expect much with it being so early in the year and the water still cold. I did manage to catch 3 small Tigers and lost 2 others. I spent the first half the day probing the shallows with no sign of life except for the carp. The water is low and 45 degrees lake wide. I marked a whole lot of fish in 15 to 20 feet of water. All the Tigers I got into were pulled out of 15 of water off Cemetary point and very inactive. They fought about as good as reeling in a wet sock!!!!!!! Should get better as the water warms and submerges some cover for all the fish.

Oh yes more more thing. Here is a short video of how not to handle a Tiger Muskie! And yes my hands were bleeding afterwards!!!!!

Thanks for the report. I got in about 15 casts from shore at dusk sat evening on the N side of cemetery point, looked pretty cold to me. I caught nothing but my 3 year old daughter trying to go for a swim in the drink!

Cant wait for the water to warm up and the muskies to get more active

here fishy fishy !

Great report! That is pretty good action for this ear;y in the year. Looks like you were using a Frenzy? Any bigger fish?

Thanks for the report. And yes lipping tigers, no matter how small will hurt. It is also not recommended to toss the tigers into the water from the boat, but to gently release them. For their size and killing ability, they are actually very delicate fish that can die easy....I believe panfish can take more abuse and live, but the tigers just cash it in.

I have found when the water is cold its not a problem realesing Tigers. They usually swim right off as soon as they are back in the water. The smaller guys are alot tougher than the Big ones when it comes to release. In the summer months the big guys take some time to revive if taken out of the water for a photo. Dont worry that guy when back in the water snout first like a diver!!! He was returned very healthy. Lol. Cant say much for my hand Sad Thats the problem with putting your hand through the gill plate of small ones. They have small mouths and your fingers are alot closer to all the teeth and trebble hooks!!!!!!!!!
