Utah Lake water level question - GEEZER - 04-25-2007

I don't recall seeing Utah Lake as high as it was earlier this spring since about 1984. I know we have had a couple fair water years the last two but don't remember seeing very high river flows the past two. Now the question - does anybody know what percentage of Utah Lake water comes from the river inflows vs. what comes from springs in the lake? I know there are springs in the Saratoga, Lincoln Beach and Mud lake areas but are there others?

I don't suppose this is a question of much import to the lake, I'm just kinda pondering where the he-- all that water came from. If anybody can shed more light on this for me I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Thanx,

GEEZER

All I know is that it is bound to be shortlived with this winter's snowpack. It'll be low by the end of the summer is my guess.

Is there alot of the Jordan river that is used for irrigation? Not just by farmers but cities along the way that utilize secondary water? It seems like there are more homes and less farm fields every year. I always wondered if the fields on the south end of UL pump water out of UL or do they divert it off the tributaries.

Most of the water in Utah Lake belongs to water users in Salt Lake County. It goes to irrigate farms and is diverted from the Jordan River. They open those gates up wide most the summer.
