TROLLING MOTOR - KOKANEE - 05-05-2007
I want to get a trolling motor for my boat but dont know what size I should get. I have a 24ft open bow boat. And any advice on the best brand would be helpful. thanks

i would go with a 15hp merc, do you need a long or a short shaft?

Im not sure I would guesss short. The water line is probabley 12-15inches below the swim platform. Im leaning towards a merc but am impressed with honda products. Are the Hondas alot more money?

i know acouple people with hondas and they have had nothing but problems Handa should stick with cars and 4 wheelers

I have a 21 ft open bow that had a remote troll mount on the back. Purchased a Merc 9.9 short and it was fine for power but hit a few waves and the prop bounced in and out of the water - ie. Buy a long shaft.

Got a brand new Nissan 9.8 for hundreds less than any new merc around and NO TAX! Shipping included in quote as was 3 gal gas tank and gas line. Great motor and LIGHT!

Nissans are good my father inlaw has a 05 nissan and it is a very nice motor. i would do some measuring and make sure a short will work for you . My short on my 19' comes out of the water when it gets rough . the worst part about trolling on a bigger boat like that is controll when it gets windy! good luck and let us know what you decide on. I have a 26 ft bayliner and I run a 9.8 featherlight Nissan. I love that kicker.. I have had no problems at all in the last 2 years, and it pushes my boat very well. I ordered mine from Cabelas with $13 shipping and no tax...
