Lake powell tips for stripers - ocean - 06-04-2007 Here are some tips that i learned while fishing for stripers. The stripers were hugging bottom just about everywhere we fished. So i chummed them up .Once they were about 5-10 feet under my boat a weightless hook or just a jig head would be all you need for them.We even got cats coming up taking baits.Anchovies were great for chumming because they smell and are the only legal bait you can use for chumming. But we also realized that they dont stay on hooks very well.We used red shiners for bait and found out that the stripers and cats love them and they would stay on the hook better. We even used the same bait for several fish too.We would have tried chubs for bait but quantanman left them at camp. But i did have something huge probably over a 20lb fish take one so who knows. Basicaly we just needed about 4 bags a day for chum about 2 bags morning and 2 for the evening and fish with red shiners or chubs which you can get free if you have traps or nets. The stripers are starving so they are not picky what they eat and one even had a small cat in its belly and none of the ones i filleted had any shad in them.Save money on anchovies!!!! [signature] |
