Looking for how to info - PJ3P - 07-05-2007

I would like to put a keel on the front of my toon and was thinking that I could put something across the front frame as a footrest [I don't use fins] that could have a keel attached to the bottom of it. This would greatly stabilize the front end so that it wouldn't spin around so much. Now if I could just keep the gators away.

looking for something along the lines a piece of plywood the width of the frame with a block near each end to hold it in place and an aluminum keel mounted on the middle.

If you're going to share the pond with that gator you should consider mounting some heavy artillery on that platform. Maybe 50 caliber.

Sorry I'm jumping off the point, I looked in your website and notice "North Carolina" and spot the water falls that you walked under...
Been there a few times when my wife's dad used to live not far from there. Beautiful area! Lots to see!

Pretty much the sky is the limit. If you can imagine it wither you or some one can build it. I would look at either using a piece of diamond plate and have some one weld a small bracket off of your foot pegs and than bolt on the diamond plate. It is lighter the Plywood adn much more water resistant. I think some one made a casting platform from plastic not to long ago.

Good luck and imagine away

Thanks but I'm not really looking for a casting platform, just a footrest and something to mount a keel on. I realize I could go and spend a pile of cash for something pretty. What I would prefer is something simple that can be easily installed /removed.

[black]If you don't wear fins, how do you propel your craft?[/black]

If you use oars, you can control your toon with them.

If you use a elec. trolling motor, you can guide your toon and control it with that.

I fail to understand why you would want a keel or rudder.

Re: [Saberfish] Looking for how to info - PJ3P - 07-06-2007

I'm bass fishing with lures. When casting at angles, the front of the boat tends to spin toward the side i'm reeling. It is also very susceptable to spinning in the wind. I don't use fins because I'm in S Florida. I rigged up a piece of plexiglass to see if it would help and it made a very nice difference. However it was not good enough to leave it that way.

[black]You didn't tell me how you get around.[/black]

I think that if you try fins, you will find that after a short time using them, you will correct the "turning" problem without even thinking about it. They really are great for stabilizing your toon.

You said that you don't use fins because you are in S. Florida. Are fins illegal in Florida?
