Jordanelle - HELP. - Bigguyone - 07-09-2007 I am planning on learning the SMB fishery at Jordanelle....going to try and hit the lake 3x this week. I am looking for some assistance on where to hit the lake in the early morning right now....also some direction on lures/baits is greatly appreciated. I grew up in SW Wyoming (near Pinedale) so never have really had a chance to learn SMB. THANK YOU in advance for your assistance. They started trolling for trout, but with little success, so they started "bumping" the shorelines up and down the east arm (rock cliffs), casting dark colored grubs into any trees and bushes they could find.[/black] [black][/black] [black]He said that the largest was about 16 inches, with most in the 10-12 inch range.[/black] [black][/black] [black]He said that the fishing was pretty consistent during the day, and was mostly impressed by the fight the SMB provided on light gear. (he may have become a SMB fan).[/black] [black][/black] [black]From what he related to me, he was using 3 inch, dark colored grubs on light weight lead head jigs.[/black] [black][/black] [black]I don't think that the boat that they used was really set up for bass fishing. It was large enough to anchor off shore, and sleep three couples.[/black] [black][/black] [black]I have fished Jordanelle several times, and early in the morning, when the water is calm, I have taken a few on top water baits, casting directly into the shore, and working them back to the boat.[/black] [signature] Re: [Bigguyone] Jordanelle - HELP. - TubeDude - 07-09-2007 [cool][#0000ff]The good news is that it is almost harder to find something that the SMB WON'T hit at Jordanelle than something they will. You can find and catch them all around the lake, on almost any kind of shoreline. And, they will hit any plastic bait meant for perch or spinner or hardbait fished for trout. They ain't proud.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]That being said, you can increase your odds of catching more and bigger fish by learning the spots that attract the bigger fish...and by fishing the lures that appeal more to them. But, there are probably as many big smallies taken by folks not even fishing for them as by the guys who "know it all". I once caught about 20 smallmouth in a row on small roadrunner jigs I was fishing for perch. The smallest might have been 14" and the biggest was at least 18"...all on light rod and light line.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]If you start early, work the shallows first. If the fish are deeper, work along the sloping banks and keep working out deeper until you find "the zone". It can be different on different parts of the lake and on different days. It might even change from hour to hour.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]The bass are feeding mostly on small perch fry...no more than 1" -2" long. They are a very pale color and small plastics in white or smoke sparkle will do the job. Bigger bass often react more to larger plastics...3" - 5"...in "Senko" type sticks, grubs or shad bodies. Whatever you throw, let it sink and work it slowly. Pay attention to your line as well as what you feel. The bite is often just your line moving off sideways...not a smashing strike.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]If you like to throw spinners and hardbaits, they can work well too. Just be prepared to take out a second mortgage to finance refilling your tackle box. The brush piles and sunken trees in Jordanelle are lure hungry.[/#0000ff] [signature] |
