Lincoln Beach Tubing Floatilla 8-11-07 - TubeDude - 08-12-2007 [cool][#ff0000](Copied and pasted from the Tubing Board)[/#ff0000] [#ff0000][/#ff0000] [size 2][blue]Swedishfish beat road, LloydE and myself out to the end of the dike at Lincoln Beach. It was still dark when I got there and the other three guys were ahead of me. I like that kinda dedication. Fishfinder462 actually met up with me in the parking lot and followed me out. The whole gang was ready to rumble even before daybreak. Road launched first. I was right behind him. Water temp was 71 at launch...warming to about 74 by noon. Air temp was a comfy 65, with just a light easterly canyon breeze from Spanish Fork. Kept the bugs away for a while anyway. Forecast was for strong south winds. We were hoping to get in a couple of hours fishing before it got too bad. I powered across to the area by the reeds and started tossing a small jig spinner. About the second cast I got a nice whack and hoped for a wallie. Nope. The first of about 30 - 40 little white bass for the day. I got more of the same in short order and the reports over the walkie talkie confirmed that the other guys were finding willing whities too. I was also dragging a minnow on one rod, while pitching lures with the other. Hoping for a walleye or cat on the minnows. Nope. Nuttin' but pesky whities molestin' my minnows. Kept catching more white bass, including some large enough to keep for dinner. I finally changed from minnow to carp meat. Good move. Had a couple of small pop and drops from whities, and then the line started running out through the guides on my bait rod. I muttered something to myself about %&$#& white bass and set the hook. WHOA! My rod tip stayed where it was and my line zinged off the reel against a stout drag. Not a whitie. That 24" mama cat weighed just under six pounds, but she kicked my behind like a ten pounder. Great battle. That was about 8 AM. I figured the cats would turn on then. Nope. Nothing but whities for me the rest of the day. I did have one other runner but did not get the hook into it. Stupid inexperienced fish just didn't know how to hang on. About 9 AM, I heard some loud whoopin' and hollerin'. I looked up to see LloydE locked in mortal combat with a large fish, which was doing a lot of splashing to keep Lloyd whoopin'. Turned out to be a dandy 22" walleye that weighed in at a healthy 3.3 pounds at the fillet table. Since Lloyd lives for walleyes, that fish made his day. He could have gone home a happy man at that point. Fishfinder called out on the mike for someone with a net. He had hooked a large kitty over near the reeds and had left his net home. Silly boy. Guess he didn't believe us when we told him there were bigguns in there. Anyhooters, he was not planning to keep the fish so he tried to lift it aboard by the line and the small jig hook pulled out. He hooked another nice one a while later and I powered over to hand off my net and my lip gripper so he could at least pose for a picture. I did, we did, he did and we all did. Good show. I guess it was about 22 inches and maybe 5 pounds. Nice kitty. Still swimmin'. We joked all morning about the slow catfish action being the result of the heavy south winds. Ha ha. In truth, there were only light breezes, and they kept changing from different directions. About 10:30, we actually had semi serious north breezes. Just when we noticed and commented on that, they stopped and the anticipated south wind came to life. Within minutes it was stirring up some popcorn. Fortunately, we were all within easy reach of the landing spot and the wind was blowing us directly to it. Piece of pie. Swedishfish had to boogie by 10:30, so he didn't get windblown. He also did not have a barnburner day of fishing. I understand he caught some white bass...like everybody...but I would have sure liked to have seen him go bendo on a biggun. I will let the others tell their own TRUE stories. Lots of fun guys. Looking forward to Tuesday. Nice walleye Lloyde! Did you get it on a jig? Too bad the cats weren't more playful, but I bet the consistant whitie bite was fun anyway. [cool] [signature] Re: [Flycasting] Lincoln Beach Tubing Floatilla 8-11-07 - TubeDude - 08-12-2007 [cool][#0000ff]Just in case Lloyd sleeps in, or stays out celebrating his big catch, I will answer for him.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]The walleye came from about 5 feet of water, on a small chartreuse tube jig. They are starting to move into shore and to feed during the day again. However, FishFinder did some trolling with a crawler rig and did not score anything. Neither did a couple of the boats we saw out working for wallies.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Last week, Marty (road) found an area close to the reeds, in 3 feet of water, where the walleyes were congregating and feeding. He landed two, lost a couple of others and had several more bites.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]As soon as the warm weather breaks and the water cools down to 60 - 65, both the whities and the wallies will be much more cooperative. That is also a good time to target the big cats. Once they notice the water cooling down, they put on the feed bag to pork up for winter under the ice. Some of the biggest kitties of the year come in the late fall feeding session.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [TubeDude] Lincoln Beach Tubing Floatilla 8-11-07 - Flycasting - 08-12-2007 Thanks for the info... So when we goin'? But, I am still trying to get up there to try out my golf cart tube truck.[/#0000ff] [signature] Re: [Flycasting] Lincoln Beach Tubing Floatilla 8-11-07 - LloydE - 08-12-2007 I give thanks to TubeDude for answering your question. He is on top of things, and I didn't even read your quesiton until today! I was fishing with two small curly tails at the same time. Both were on 1/16 oz minnow head jig hooks. One jig had a chartreuse head with a black body and a chartreuse tail (the walleye took this one), and the other had a black head with a white body and tail. I caught fish with both jigs all morning. At one time I caught two white bass at the same time. [signature] Re: [TubeDude] Lincoln Beach Tubing Floatilla 8-11-07 - nansea - 08-12-2007 Way to go, nice fish! A guy has to keep some secrets ya know.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I DEFINITELY do not need more lead. No way I will ever use all that I have right now. Don't need any more smashed fingers either. That one is still stiff.[/#0000ff] [signature] |
