Lake Mead Friday Evening - BaySport - 08-25-2007

Friday, 08/24/07-Finally made it back on the Lake! On the water around 5:00 pm. According to my truck the outside temp. was 110 degrees! Water was calm.

Outboard did not run very smooth on the trip to Sand Island. Kind of missed and sputtered. Upon arrival, fished a quick boil, along with six other boats. One boat left its outboard running and fished way to close to the feeding action. I think the best way to fish these small boils is to move in slow, shut down the engine, and cast from the outside. Sorry I'm rambling.... First two casts resulted in two nice three pounders. Stripers hit hard on Zara Spook Jr's. The surface feeding ended quick as a couple more boats arrived. Switched to a Spin-O jig, and added one more to the box by jigging.

Fired up the outboard to move downstream where a bunch of birds were hanging out. Engine began running rough so I thought it was best to head in while it was light. I'd been fishing for all of about 20 minutes! Made it back to the marina by 6:30 pm. Boat would not go over 3000 rpm without missing and sputtering. Looks like I'm off the water until my engine is serviced. Anyone have a good experience with a Merc. mechanic locally?

Hello BaySport,

Sorry to hear about your engine problems. One of my friends uses Aqua Marine on Lake mead right next door to the Lake mead lounge. Ask for Kenny He is a speed boat racer and knows engines inside and out Also he is a merc. dealer. I took my boat there once an he had it running in 5 minutes. My friend is a guide on the Lake so it is very important to stay up and running.

Also some other friend use the Off Shore Marine I think they are the crestliner dealer next to the gas station on lake Mead. They like the service there.

I also have some problems of my own. About a month ago I was a the launch ramp Putting away gear into truck. A person walking by said looks like you took on a bunch of water. So the next time out I watched more close and found. I was taking on water. When I got home I filled the boat with water and found that under the keel strip, water is coming out. Now Tracker has the boat and the factory wants the boat back for inspection. It looks like I will be out of service for at least another month or so. No reports from me. Good luck and keep up the great reports. Time for me to get some things done around the house.

Thanks for the info. Engine is almost ten years old and I've never had any problems with it. I usually head up to Utah every summer to visit and fish with my bro BLM. Lee's Marine of Hyrum, Utah services the engine at that time. This summer we went to San Francisco Bay instead. I've never used a local shop. Others have told me good things about Aqua Marina also. I just hope my problem can be resolved quickly.

Sorry to here about the leaky hull! [unsure] This is a bad time to be stranded on shore.
