Fish guide's in Utah? - icejigginfool - 10-26-2007 Just seeing if bassrods has a fish guide license to be asking for money to take people out to fish; becuse that is what I thought fish guide's do. He should keep that info just between friends that go with him instead of posting his guide prices on BFT. Some guide's could be offended in this offer. If you know; Talk about it; IF NOT: SHUT UP![shocked] [signature] Re: [icejigginfool] Fish guide's in Utah? - fishyfishyfish - 10-26-2007 It looked to me like he was asking to split expenses for gas in both boat and truck, not an uncommon thing. "[font "Verdana,Arial,Helvetica"][black][size 1][font "Verdana,Arial,Helvetica"][black][size 1]your half for gas for boat and truck is $35.00 if we fish Jordanelle" Hardly looks like someone advertising a guide service [/size][/black][/font][/size][/black][/font] [signature] Re: [fishyfishyfish] Fish guide's in Utah? - toyguy - 10-26-2007 [black][size 2]Wow. This is a troubling post. Just about every post I have seen on this board that has been about an invite for a fishing trip has included cost splitting. I think that is most reasonable. It certainly is your prerogative to interpret that as a fishing guide service, and therefore require a license. But in substance, why would a guide charge a mere $35? And I think you know that. That can only lead me to believe that this post is born of ill will. I ‘m never ceased to be amazed by the pettiness of human beings. Here we have a guy with great skill who’s willing to share it for only the cost of gas. And it also means he's willing to give up his honey holes. Just like I wrote yesterday, I find that generous. Yet you find it as an opportunity to twist this into some kind of predatory guide service. I think you, sir, are out of order and malicious.[/size][/black] [signature] Re: [icejigginfool] Fish guide's in Utah? - bassrods - 10-26-2007 In utah you do NOT need a (GUIDE license) for fishing, if you want me to guide you my fee is $450.00 per day.... [signature] Re: [fishyfishyfish] Fish guide's in Utah? - icejigginfool - 10-26-2007 Exactly what I said; keep it between friends; don't advertise on a board that every one can see. Because I know what the price of gas; time; wear and tear on equipment cost's; if your a friend going fishing you know how much to chip in for the trip. Unless you don't have a fishing friend that helps out. If you know;Talk about it; IF NOT: SHUT UP![shocked] [signature] Re: [icejigginfool] Fish guide's in Utah? - orvis1 - 10-26-2007 Do you have something against bassrods? He has always been helpfull to me with any questions I have asked him. It is also very generous to offer to take a stranger up fishing (hard to tell the crazy ones online) and he is giving you an idea of the split cost. I think $35 for a day of fishing on a boat with someone who cleary has demonstrated he knows his stuff is a bargin to say the least. I have been out fishing with some guys for these forums and learned a ton on new techniques and locations. If you can learn from each other, have a good time out fishing, and make a new fishing buddy I see no harm in that. By your screen name one would assume you know how to ice fish, by my screen name you would assume I flyfish. I know nothing of icefishing so trading an ice fishing trip for a fly fishing trip we would both be better fisherman because of it. I would expect someone with common courtesy would split expenses but bassrods is just stating what those expenses would be up front. I agree with the others that your post seemed attacking and a little out of line. [signature] Re: [icejigginfool] Fish guide's in Utah? - toyguy - 10-26-2007 So I guess Kent's post to fish Fish Lake qualifies for your microscope, too? Or is the difference that Cliff posted an actual dollar amount of expense whereas Kent posted a generalized cost splitting? Sorry man, I'm calling you out. Me thinks you got some beef with Cliff, and are using this issue as a tool. I am angered that you are turning a generous open offer by a respected board member into an issue. I maintain that you are out of order and malicious. [signature] Re: [icejigginfool] Fish guide's in Utah? - utwalleye - 10-26-2007 that might be right. I have a friend (no names) he's a member here that just about got a ticket for this very thing on F.G. the officer told him that even if they buy gas you could be considered guiding. if my friend reads this maybe he will post about it. you might want to keep this between your friends or find out for sure. wouldn't want you to get a ticket for just having fun with friends. later chuck [signature] Re: [icejigginfool] Fish guide's in Utah? - JimyLongs - 10-26-2007 Wow, I really can't believe one would bring this up. Apparently you've never met Cliff and have never read much of what he has posted. I for one appreciate the time he puts into the free demonstrations along with the others on the board and one day I would love to take him up on his offer to fish for bass with him on Jordanelle. His knowledge he has shared has significantly increased my fishing success and I've never had such a great year fishing. Thanks bassrods! I have heard of this happening at the Gorge to other people other than your friend, and I have been asked by game wardens on the lake about the expenses for that day of fishing. Sharing expenses to go fishing is a generous offer but in the eyes of the Wyo F&G and Forest Service it can constitute income.[/size][/#808000][/font] [font "Times New Roman"][#808000][size 3][/size][/#808000][/font] [font "Times New Roman"][#808000][size 3]Bassrods I do believe your offer to share expenses is sincere, but I don't think I would be charging someone $450 to fish smallies at the Gorge I guarantee you will get a ticket if caught.[/size][/#808000][/font] [signature] Re: [utwalleye] Fish guide's in Utah? - toyguy - 10-26-2007 This is outrageous! Not that I would want to spend the time to contest this, but I assure you, NO justice system in Utah is going to enforce a guiding-without-a-license penalty for taking gas money. Can you say substance over form? And just because ONE LE says there might be a ticket, doesn't mean that all LE's would enforce this. They are allowed to operate with discretion. And while I'm not the biggest fan of government authority, many with authority are quite reasonable. And reasonable would mean no citation would be issued. Stop this nonsense! A good-spirited offer here is being smashed to pieces.[mad] [signature] Re: [Wyobraz] Fish guide's in Utah? - toyguy - 10-26-2007 Wyobraz - While I have to respect your experience with this (although I am stunned by a Ranger's intrusion here), even though it may constitute income, there would be the offsetting expense, meaning $0 financial gain. I'll apologize in advance if I'm wrong, but I believe no court would enforce a fine unless there were mitigating circumstances. By all means, let's keep this up, and whip up fear of civil disobedience, and it's speculative repercussions. Perhaps I have had too much caffeine this morning, but I am ![]() [mad][mad][mad] [signature] Re: [toyguy] Fish guide's in Utah? - Wyobraz - 10-26-2007 [reply] NO justice system in Utah is going to enforce a guiding-without-a-license penalty for taking gas money. [/reply] People have been fined in the past and will continue to be fined especially on waters such as the Gorge where there are numerous guides that make a living on it's waters. This is actually a very good topic that most people have never thought of. It is however too bad Bassrods name was brought up as an example because his offer was sincere. That is unfortunate because this thread will most likely get Moderated and the valuable info that others are trying to share will be lost. If he says he knows of people getting tickets, then he is telling the truth. I think it's a dumb law, but there are always those people that could say, "Hey, I just charged him $300 for gas expenses." When we going fishin Braz? [ ![]() [signature] Re: [Wyobraz] Fish guide's in Utah? - bassrods - 10-26-2007 You're talking apples and oranges here. Wyoming requires a guide license. But...Utah doesn't regulate fishing guides and doesn't require a license to do such. Just got off the phone with the UDWR again...just to clarify. Hmmmm...the last time I checked. Jordanelle was still in Utah. So unless we've been annexed by Wyoming...which might not be a bad thing...Utah regulations would prevail. Besides...I don't want to guide. I just want to go fishing and if someone wants to go along, he can pay his fair share...no matter where the water is. But some folks don't know what "fair share" means and it has to be explained. I don't like surprises when I go someplace and am expected to split the costs, I like to know. That's all I'm saying.
