Sunday at Strawberry - Ktrout - 12-23-2007 After enjoying my first ice fishing trip last Sunday at the Berry, decided I needed to go again. This was short trip because I have to be at the airport in a couple of hours. Fishing strated off slow in the morning but picked up later on. It was so cold in the morning that I didn't feel like jigging. Bait fishing with a worm and mellow only got one fish. I caught seven total and six were off of tube jigs or curly tail jigs. Caught a nice fat rainbow (see picture) and the rest were cutts. I finally had to leave because I don't want to miss my flight and I wanted to be able to post a report. I was still catching fish at 10:15 when I left. I'm starting to like this ice fishing stuff. [signature] Re: [Ktrout] Sunday at Strawberry - keystonecop - 12-23-2007 Those are some nice fish. It looks like you have the ice fishing figured out. I was planning on making it there today but last nights Christmas party took me out. Was the ice any thicker this week? I want to get my wheeler out on the ice next Sunday. Kyle [signature] Re: [Ktrout] Sunday at Strawberry - MGB - 12-24-2007 Thanks for the report. We fished it Saturday, the bite slowed down about 10:30 or 11:00, you probably left at the right time. Attached is a photo of Bugln4Bulls 26 inch cutt. I would guess that it was about 5-6 inches where I was fishing (it looked only about four to me). Probably was not thick enough to use the wheeler if you went today. When I get back into town I'd think that CCE would have safe ice. I'm gonna have to get out there... [signature] Re: [keystonecop] Sunday at Strawberry - utoutlaw - 12-24-2007 i think ur gonna have to leave the wheeler home longer its getting to marm during the day makeing slush on top of that 5 inches of ice was up there this morning water proof boots are a must [signature] Re: [keystonecop] Sunday at Strawberry - fshslyer36 - 12-25-2007 I dont know what kind of wheeler you have but i take mine out with 5-6 inches of slush [signature] Re: [fshslyer36] Sunday at Strawberry - keystonecop - 12-25-2007 I have a Yamaha Rhino 660 sideXside. I really want to get it out but I would hate to loose it through the ice. [signature] Re: [keystonecop] Sunday at Strawberry - fshslyer36 - 12-25-2007 I wouldnt worry i am taking my wheeler there this weekend i would drive it on 4" [signature] Re: [keystonecop] Sunday at Strawberry - Ktrout - 12-25-2007 My guess is that it's not too safe right now. But since you are planning on going on Sunday, maybe someone will post a report for this coming saturday and include ice conditions. And for Mud Creek, it's only a short walk. Once the lake is frozen, I can see how the wheeler would be handy. Good luck! If say your wheeler weighs 800 lbs (mines about 500 plus me so about 700 lbs total weight) that is less than 200 lbs per wheel. Thats less than me walking on the ice. You gotta remember that the weight is spread out over a larger area making it safer than you think. [signature] |
