Strawberry Update 12/26 - HookJaw_Brimhall - 12-28-2007
The marina is still having trouble freezing over. The only safe ice is about 75 yards from shore, any further than that and you might take the elevator to the bottom. We ventured out to check it and found tons of open water pockets filled with ducks and geese. Not very many spots to fish (too shallow). We found some deeper water to fish but everyone was crammed together and I hate being crammed. I think the bay might need another week before it's completely safe. Just wanted to warn everyone that was planning on heading up.

Only a very small part of it. Usually the whole area is plowed.

Yeah, they just plowed the part next to the lodge. We had to park there and then walk all the way around to get down. I don't know what the deal is this year. I have heard Chiken Creek East is producing alot of fish, might be better to head over there.

I think part of the reason everyone was crammed together is they watched us go out. Waited for us to drill holes and yell back how much ice there was. Then they would only walk out as far as we were and start fishing.
Were you in the group that headed over to East Potral bay area?

Yeah we did the same thing, everyone waited for us to go out and check the ice. We must have been in a different part of the marina. I was just up there yesterday and the whole thing is frozen now. Still only about two inches if you walk out a ways but plenty solid.
There must be a little open water still because the ducks were still flying.
We had a very good day and I'll post my report when I get the pictures back from my friends camera.

I miss read your post time and thought you were there Friday. Looks like you were there Thursday. Either way same results. Not too many willing to trust the ice any further then the person in front of them.

Its safe now the marina was about 4 inches out and where we where was 10
