Fishing hurts. - Fishhound - 03-15-2008

[black][size 3]Ok, every once in a while or two, I have to blow off some steam about my favorite bus full of bozos. How could Darwin and P.T. Barnum have predicted the eventual existence of these morons so accurately ?[/size][/black]
[black][size 3] [/size][/black]
[black][size 3]Check out this very short vid from YouTube. You won't believe it could really be true. This is so funny that a person would do it - IT HURTS.[/size][/black]

[black][size 3]OK, Now here's my small tribute to PETA[/size][/black]

[black][size 3]These are a few short informational YouTube vids for your entertainment while you wait for ice-off.[/size][/black]

[black][size 3]Disclaimer: warning there are a few words that some folks may find a little strong for younger viewers.[/size][/black]

[black][size 3]And last but not least, here is a good vid of what my dogs look like when they are being gratefull that PETA is not in charge of their dinner menu. Just think, if PETA had their way, my dogs would be set "free" to fend for themselves.[/size][/black]

I would join the People Eating Tasty Animals Group. I will leave it at that every thing else I have to say about PETA is X Rated

Re: [Fishhound] Fishing hurts. - catfish-logic - 03-15-2008

Your post offends me.

Those poor fish that get hooked in the jaw, oh man!

I could walk up to those fisherman and hit over the head with their fishing poles.

Its bad enough that Bluegills are attacked by Largemouth Bass.

Its bad enough that those poor Gizzard Shad are chased by Wipers and Channel Catfish.

I once visited Willard Bay when those Wipers were chasing Gizzard Shad to the surface I could have just swam out there in the lake and strangled those pesky Wipers!

If I had it my way I would net all those pesky fish and put them in a pond and turn them into vegatable-tarians! Ooops I mean vegetarians!

I'm so sick of animals killing other animals, and humans killing them too!

It makes me sick! Ugh! Burf! Barf! Cah! Cah! Cah!

Your post doesn't offend me! He he he! Its just I went to the PETA website I thought "Oh my Gosh! Those are fish, fish kill other fish!"

And PETA they make a huge deal out of us humans doing it! Sheesh!

PETA are......

stupid.

You had me going for a while there Todd, I was starting to think there was no hope for you at the beginning of your reply[unsure]. Even though I don't agree with all your viewpoints, there is hope as long as we can have one common belief and that is in fishing[Smile]!

Re: Fishing hurts. - Vivid-Dawn - 03-15-2008

My opinion is kind of religious based. And to note, I won't get upset if you don't agree...it's just MY opinion, doesn't mean I'm going to force you into it.
In the bible, God gave Adam dominion over earth and it's creatures. Now, some might say "That means we can do whatever we want". Maybe true... but if you don't respect the land and critters, it could turn out bad eventually (pollution, for instance).
It's not bad to eat animals...IF you do it in moderation. Use everything, like the Native Americans (and other tribal cultures), don't let anything go to waste. Yes, I think keeping calves and lambs penned up and fed only liquid diets full of "good" chemicles is bad... but I also seriously doubt a few bleeding hearts are gonna change the practice. If I had it my way, I'd be perfectly okay with veal and lampchops...if they were free-range raised.
I don't catch and release when I go fishing...some might say that's bad. However, when I reach my limit, I quit, and take home the fish and eat them. That isn't so bad, is it? Though I would release one I caught, that needs to be. But for the most part, I use this as both fun and food source!

Now, on the issue of pets. Fishhound has a point. I keep pet fish, which PETA might claim is cruel. Sure they've got less swimming space, than if they were in a natural river...but then again, they don't need to be fleeing from predators and searching out food...I feed them 2 times a day, both "man made" flakes, and I also have 'treats' of blood worms, brine shrimp, daphnae, and other stuff. They just have to float around and look pretty. In my opinion, pets are livin' the good life! (the ones that aren't being abused, that is...but that's another matter altogether)

There's my 2 cents on the soap box!

I agree - fishing definately hurts. Anyone who has been bit by a pike, slipped on the ice or felt the spines on a bluegill can attest to the fact that fishing hurts!

I haven't been bitten or poked... though if you're not used to it, makes your muscles sore! I fished on vacation last summer, and the next day my arm was so stiff from a full day of casting! Felt just like a day after bowling when I haven't done that for a while, either.
Also, I was bad and didn't wear sunscreen, so the backs of my hands were red and swollen too!

But hey, at least I had fun!

[Wink]That was the point, to tease a bit.

PETA can be obnoxious thats why I got so sarcastic.

I mean serious from PETA's website:

"Imagine reaching for an apple on a tree and having your hand suddenly impaled by a metal hook that drags you—the whole weight of your body pulling on that one hand—out of the air and into an atmosphere in which you cannot breathe. This is what fish experience when they are hooked for “sport.”"

Then they get even more ridiculous! Read here:

"Many people grow up fishing without ever considering the terror and suffering that fish endure when they’re impaled by a hook and pulled out of the water."

I can't stop laughing! LOL!

What about the terror of being a Gizzard Shad and being attacked by Wipers and Walleyes or Catfish!

What about the terror of small Channel Catfish being eaten by hungry Walleyes.

What about the the terror of Sharks eating other fish? Are PETA complaining?

Again I can only laugh; if I don't laugh I can only get annoyed by PETA! [Image: fish-on.gif]

Whatever! Idiots!

I do agree that certain animals like Tigers should be protected and all that and as fishermen we should set an example to keep the environment there.

PETA do make a certain point the animals do suffer, its just a part of life but animals are animals.

The Bluegill suffers when a Bass eats it. A tadpole suffers when a hungry fish comes along to eat it.

A Buffalo suffers when a pack of hungry wolves attack it.

What are we to do stay up 'till 2 AM in the morning worrying about animals and what they do in the wild?

Well for PETA they just don't want us to attack the animals.

OK I can respect that, but I know its my problem PETA annoy me.

I like the environmental concerns that PETA have though we do have too much pollution, as fishermen we can agree to that.

Other than that PETA are too extreme and stupid.

[cool][#0000ff]People...especially PETA-ITES...allot far too much feeling and reasoning ability to birds, animals and fish. Only the highest ranking simians (monkeys) and cetaceans (whales and dophins) have brains with the ability to think and reason. Most of their actions and reactions are based upon instinct and learned behavior.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Terror is a concept that requires conscious thought processes. Fish ain't got it. Their struggles, when hooked, are only the most natural and instinctive efforts to get free and survive. For PETA to try to make the comparison between how humans would feel...and how fish REACT...is ludicrous. Of course, most of the garbage they lay on us is purely designed to create a FEELING reaction...not a REASONED reaction.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have always liked the question: "If PETA practitioners are so adamant about getting people to quit wearing animal skins, why don't they go hassle big bad bikers instead of throwing paint on little old ladies?" Answer: survival instinct.[/#0000ff]
