Willard Report 3-28 - cclaeys - 03-29-2008 Fishing great, catching stunk, water from 42 - 46 and smooth, great day to be on the water, saw very little action on the sonar and I was all over that lake - did manage to lose a couple crankbaits though. Only reason I even post this is to caution anyone that has never been there to be careful. The channel at the north marina is about 4 feet deep at the opening and anything left or right of that channel for a couple hundred yards is a potential hazard - stay to the north side of the channel when leaving the launch area. Those rocks on the north side creep up quick and the south side looks juicy but is about 2 feet deep at most. The launch area is ok if you stay to the west side of the ramp, it is steeper, but wont ding your motor, probably 2-4 feet deep there. Just go slow and use the finder. I am sure this has been posted before, but a reminder doesnt hurt, probably get moved to another forum. If I were a mod (and I have no desire to be) I would put a big fat sticky at the top warning about the boating dangers at Willard, just an accident waiting to happen in those rockpiles to the north there. I am sure there are people that read these Willard open water things and just head out and assume those little rocks sticking up look like a great place to troll, next thing you know you have a thrown rod or a ripped off transom. Good idea about the sticky post, I'll ask the other mods and see what they think. There is a sign as you go past the pay station at Willard that says launch at your own risk, sounds like that sign will be there for a while longer[unsure]. Glad you brought your boat back to the trailer without a big hole in the hull...or a ripped out transom.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Last year we requested that State Parks put warning buoys on the underwater hazards. They refused. There have been boats damaged at both the north and south marinas.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Sorry, but no sticky post on BFT. That is only one water and only a small percentage of our members even care about Willard. We cannot make sticky posts for all waters. That is what the archive boards are for. I will make a special link at the top of the archive board for Willard Bay.[/#0000ff] [signature] |
