Newton 6/16/08 - lordCrappie - 06-16-2008
Hit Newton today at 6 am and left around 2pm. Immediately found some crappie. Not any size to them though. They are shallow spawning. My spot where I catch bigger crappie was not producing. No other fisherman on the lake but 4 ski boats were out. I was fishing a black and chartruese jig under a bobber and it seemed to work. The lake is still pretty clear. Did manage to hook a decent bass that broke off my 6lb test line. I also did spot at least a 3lber who decided to ignore me. I hooked into a muskie and it took me for a ride on my 12 ft cane pole. It stayed on for a little while but threw the hook. It was only a baby. I put on a black crappie critter and started catching bass. I ended up catching around 10 or so. All in all it was a fun day of fishing. 50 crappie, 10 bass, 5 perch, 2 bluegill, and a stinky muskie. I took the day off work so it was a great day.

Nice report LC, seems you have the crappie catching down pat at Newton. Where did you come up with the idea of using a 12' cane pole? I haven't used a cane pole since my last trip to Alabama[

I am originally from Arkansas. I am used to fishing with a 12ft fiberglass cane pole. I got it at Cabelas for like $18. That is all we use. I have out fished a lot of people with a cane pole. People in the West laugh and think it is stupid. I don't care. Now all of my friends own one.

Right on Dude, it is great to read about others that use a cane pole, you can do at lot more that most people think with one of them. WH2
