HELP sled problems - BLU - 12-30-2008
Hello all it has been along time since I have been on but when I came to a problem I knew I could possibly find the answer here.
I have an Eskimo quickflip 2 and when I pulled it out to get it ready I noticed I have a crack in the bottom of the sled is there anyway to fix or repair it so that the inside stays dry and so dont affect the dragging.

If the crack isn't too wide, you can use MARINE type silicone on the inside of the sled. This will keep it water tight. For the outside I would first use the silicone then look for "runner" material. I know that if you look up Clam Fish Trap Runners, you can find them. All they are is an added layer of plastic to keep the sled from wearing though. If you can put these (or something similar) on you sled, combined with the silicone, it shouldn't affet pulling in fact if you do it right it might even pull easier. Once more thing, when you use the silicone don't ust gob it on. If you use a putty knife you should be able to smooth it out and it will look good. If you just gob it on it will look sloppy.

i also had the same thing happen to my quick flip 2 i to silliconed my on the inside and put mine on a sled with runners on it to keep it off the ice until i get to my spot then take the runners out from under it.

Call an ATV shop and ask if they can tell you where you can have the plastic welded.
Yes, there is a welder for plastic and it works quite well.
I don't know how much it will cost, but worth looking into.
The one problem that I see though, is how long will it be before another crack forms.
The bottom of your shelter may just bebrittle and if it is, it will just continue to crack.
You may need to order a new bottom for your shelter, itfit doesn't cost too much.

You can also use some wide T-Molding pop riveted on to reinforce the runners. Just take a razor knife, and trim off the part that normally slides into the wood.

Harbor Freight has a cheapo welder that would work great for what you need it for...

I've considered buying a shelter and ran across you thread. How old is your sled? I'm surprised it has develped a crack but it sounds like Frabill also has the same problem.

My sled is about 3 years old and usually does well over the summer but I think that some thing was putting pressure on the corner so after the heat and everything this summer it warped and cracked the plastic on the corner.

I just got a new quickflip2 for Christmas and after reading
the posts about the sled problem I was thinking about
riveting pvc to the bottom for runners with a elbow on
the front to curve it up the front.What are the taughts on
this type of fix.

I'd reinforce if you need to drag it over rocks or other abrasive surfaces often... otherwise just use it till a problem develops. I've been using my QuickFlip2 for 4 years now... I have drug it over rocks and across roads occasionally... the bottom is still fine. If I run into a really bad area I'll unhook it and drag it over the area by hand, lifting it when appropriate.
When I get to the point I need to reinforce it, I'll use T-Moldings pop-rivetted on.
