Does anyone do any winter trout fishing? - lakelurker - 01-18-2009 I know it is pretty cold out but I have been thinking about maybe getting out after a few trout. I have a few areas where I live where they have a three trout winter limit and was wondering if anyone else has this opportunity. I usually did well. Personally i really liked going out for natives this time of year. They just seemed a bit more eager to bite. Maybe because it is winter and there is not alot of people out throwing everything at them. I say go out and try your luck! My friends and I have done well there over the years. Patience is the key. I guess they had to draw down the lake to remove parts of a bridge that they blew up years ago. The reason being was that the lake was low this year and parts of it were sticking out of the water. This is not the first time this has happened, but the fish kill was worse this time. I say why let it happen again! there should be some sort of action taken to make sure this will not repeat itself everytime they need to draw the dam down. The baitfish are concentrated in the deep water near the valve opening and the walleye are right behind them, Hence the kill when they decide to open it up. My friend talked with the fish warden and he said we lost quite a few young eye's this time. [:/] If they would have just cut off the rod iron lower when they put the bridge in they wouldn't have had the problem in the first place. Go figure Engineers!!!!!!! I mean that like is not fertile to begin with. It will take years to get all those fish back. I just think they should take a more responsible approach to this the next time they decide to draw down the dam. Somebody actually seen it take place and reported it. Most years you could walk around the outflow and scoop up alewifes with shovels. This is what it looks like every spring: ![]() [signature] Re: [lakelurker] Does anyone do any winter trout fishing? - kingtrout21 - 02-01-2009 fished the yellow breeches on sat saw 2 trout caught none frooze my butt off [signature] Re: [kingtrout21] Does anyone do any winter trout fishing? - lakelurker - 02-22-2009 Made it out today.
