VERMONT YOUTH MEMORIES CONTEST WINNERS ANNOUNCED - FishNews - 01-27-2009
WATERBURY, VERMONT -- Governor Douglas recognized the winners of Vermont's 2008 Youth Hunting and Fishing Memories Contest on Saturday, January 17th at the Yankee Classic Sportsman's Show in Essex Junction.
"The Youth Hunting and Fishing Memories Contest showcases the achievements of Vermont's youth hunters and anglers through their short essays, photos and art," said Governor Douglas. "In addition to the 21 young people who are receiving awards, we have 92 youths who submitted wonderful essays capturing their thoughts, passions and experiences about fishing and hunting in Vermont."
"Perhaps most striking is the importance our kids placed on family, friends and having fun outdoors," added Douglas. "This is especially encouraging since family involvement is how many young people first learn about hunting and fishing, but these activities create lasting memories that will be cherished forever."
Winners received a variety of prizes such as fishing equipment, a Beagle Outdoor Wear fanny pack, a Fishes of Vermont book, framed photos, and a Youth Hunting Patch. All contest winners also received complimentary passes, courtesy of the Yankee Sportsman's Classic, to attend the popular outdoor show. In addition, the top five hunting essays are eligible to compete for The Vermont Big Game Trophy Club's "Archery Only" hunt for two, parent and child (or mentor and child), at Antelope Outfitters in Torrington, Wyoming. The runner-up will receive a two-day hare hunt at Pine Grove Lodge in Pleasant Ridge, Maine.
