Nightcrawlers on the Weber - sinergy - 04-02-2009 I fished the Weber near Wanship the other day and as im walking along the bank I see a big ol worm... A nightcrawler similiar to the ones you get in the white styrofoam containers. I walk down further a see a few more I pulled one out and ot look as if it had been on a bait hook (I know this cause I bait fish the reservouirs) 1. Is it possible it floated down from the reservoiur ? 2. Arent nightcrawlers illegal on that part of the river ? 3. Is it possible big ol worms like that could of been freed from the bank braking free and landing in the water ??? Im abit pissed off I could be over reacting but its one of my favorite spots to cast a fly. Hate the thought of it getting all mucked up. Spend a weekend day up there and look at who shows up with a container of worms. You won't be surprised.[mad] [signature] Re: [sinergy] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - packfish - 04-02-2009 I'm not quite understanding this- I see night crawlers rolling down the river this time of year until June all the time. [signature] Re: [sinergy] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - FishinHippy - 04-02-2009 Did you see a container, or the beding that they put in the container. There could be a lot of different reasons, I know when I collect worms naturally, there are some huge ones along with the smaller worms that are more abundant. Someone might of fished a different stretch or lake before, and let them go when he got there. Personally I have never had much luck tossin crawlers out here, so if it was a fisherman, I doubt they did very well. I din't say no luck I said much Luck.....[:p] [signature] Re: [sinergy] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - sinergy - 04-03-2009 I usually give people the benefit of the doubt so I gonna keep an open mind and believe it was some how freed from shore line but better believe im going to start packing my camera and cell and if it is something illegal going on im going turn these sob's in [signature] Re: [sinergy] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - DOC-JAVADAY - 04-03-2009 I heard through the grape vine a guy got a 28 in brown on a worm and his buddy got one 25 in on the weber river last week they do this all the time. Don't they know they are illegal?! [signature] Re: [sinergy] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - monsterbrowns - 04-06-2009 I was talking to the officer checking licenses at the Weber (near Wanship) on Sunday about bait fisherman on the blue ribbon section. I asked him how I would report such and offense. He told me to call the phone number on my license or of if i was near Wanship, call 911 and tell them that I have seen a violation. Sounds easy enough. [signature] Re: [monsterbrowns] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - sinergy - 04-06-2009 Thats awesome to hear !!! I've never even seen an officer in that area but good to know there out there patrolling the area. On another note to further proof I'm not imagining things I went to toss my drink in the garbage and what you know a empty worm container. Now I'm not jumping to conclusions could be some one had it laying around in there truck glad to see it went in the garbage not on the stream side but still [unimpressed][unimpressed][unimpressed][unimpressed] Oh Ya fished it today 04/06 had an early day of work hit the river about 11:00 am. Bunch of shed midge casing floating on the water maybe just missed a hatch... Didnt see any fish rising or really midges flying around but casing were every were ??? Didn't fare to well caught only 2 white fish on scuds tried every midge pattern I had no browns [:p] [signature] Re: [sinergy] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - packfish - 04-07-2009 Good to see a trash can that is being used. [signature] Re: [sinergy] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - lurtch - 04-09-2009 weres the worm fishing secton on this river ...is flyfishing illegal on this section it would only be fair[sly] [signature] Re: [lurtch] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - FOD - 04-09-2009 below rockport to the bridge and below echo you can use worms but not on the blue ribbon section between wahnship and echo. also check the proclamation for more specifics. life is not fair LOL [signature] Re: [sinergy] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - fish_on75 - 04-09-2009 I was fishing just off of the Coalville exit last year by the RV Campground and saw a couple of guys fishing with worms right off the bridge. I asked them if they had had any luck. They said no, and when I saw that they were fishing with worms, I said "I didn't think you could fish with worms up here." They just shrugged and I went about my business. After fishing a hole just upstream from them for a while, I saw a Fish & Game vehicle pull up. I got to watch him give these ignorant, SOB's a ticket. If you don't know the regulations, STAY OFF THE RIVERS!! It's people like this that ruin things for the rest of us, including trespassing! [signature] Re: [FOD] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - lurtch - 04-10-2009 i do some flyfishing myself and have taken advantage of the flys only sections of rivers we have in michigan..i was being a little sacastic..point is this is public land and the fish that are stocked in it are paid for by everybodys licences..why do only a sellect few get to use it..are we that special..kind of like a section of highway that only electric cars can drive on..would this be right.. [signature] Re: [lurtch] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - PBH - 04-10-2009 I'm kind of with lurtch. If the water has a condition that warrants special regulations, I am for them (ie: Minersville Reservoir). However, I can't hardly stomach special regulations that are only a social factor -- like the Provo and the Blacksmith. Data shows that artificial only regs along with strict harvest regulations aren't helping these waters. But anglers like them... [signature] Re: [PBH] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - packfish - 04-10-2009 The Blacksmith hasn't had those restrictions for a few years I don't think- [signature] Re: [PBH] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - monsterbrowns - 04-10-2009 This was another thing that I talked to the officer about. He assured me that the blue ribbon (artificial only) section of the Weber (and throughout the state) has far less trash than other fishing areas. He also said that there are far fewer violations among the folks that fish these areas. In my experience, folks that fish these areas legally tend to be more conscious of the health of the trout as well. When releasing trout, I get a better feeling from those carrying fly rods and artificials. We want that trout to be there next time we visit, hopefully larger. I fish many areas, but I prefer the areas that are clean, virtually trash-free, fewer people, and seemingly more and larger fish. Anyone can use these areas. It is not limited to a select group of people. Anyone can purchase spinners, flies, jigs, etc. [signature] Re: [monsterbrowns] Nightcrawlers on the Weber - lurtch - 04-11-2009 i agree a veteran trout fisherman is going to be much more resectfull of the trout stream he fishes...but the point still remains...[fishin] [signature] |
