project from this weekend - fishinfool - 04-27-2009

Thought I would show you guy's what I did to the boat this weekend.
I have been looking online for a month trying to find a decent trolling motor bracket for a swim deck, well I didn't want to spend $150.00 + on a cheesy mount that they sale online so I made this with a little help from my boy the welder.
My cost $40.00 + some elbow grease.
The last file is a video you will need quicktime player.

Thank You.
It should work great and the main thing is I wont be burning up 30 dollars in fuel a day on willard,[Wink]
I also have a question, both my main motor and my kicker run 50/1 oil mixture so I was thinking if I put a T in my main fuel line and hook up the kicker fuel line to that would I have any problems with that setup?I really hate to have to carry the kicker gas tank too.Any info on that would be great.
Can't wait to get out and try it now![fishin]

Sweet! I looked at those there built really well,I didn't have the room on the back of the boat for one though.

I had this one sitting around. It's a 5hp mariner.bought it new in 1982 and it was used mainly for duck hunting on a scanoe,I got a 6hp mud buddy 2years ago and this has been in storage since.I also had a 4hp mercury that I picked up off KSL that I sold to a hunting buddy last year for what I paid for it $200.00 buck.that was a really good motor to,started first pull every time know matter how cold it was out there in the swamp..lets just say he was a happy camper.I have seen allot of great deals on kicker lately on KSL look at boat parts and on fishing equipment.

Re: [fishinfool] project from this weekend - MGB - 04-28-2009

Thats a nice job on the bracket, looks like an expert made it.

Heres a couple pics I took of my fuel hook up.

The second pic is the switch to switch to the main motor and to the kicker the hose just below the switch is the fuel line that plugs into the kicker.

The first pic is the back side of the switch. The center line comes from my 24 gallon tank, the hose on the left that comes out of the spliter goes to the kicker (as mentioned above) and the hose on the right goes to the main motor.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Mike

It has some flaws but I can live with them.overall I'm very happy with it.My son made it exactly the way I ask him to.

Thats just what I was looking for. Thanks for all the detailed photo's that set up should work great for my application to.

That mount looks very good. The swim deck app's are a pain. It appears you have it dialed in. Great work. Did you powder coat it or paint it with a rattle can?

Thanks 6pointbull,
I was going to get it powder coated but if I wanted white I would have had to wait and I wanted to get it on the boat,I did a really good sanding job, then bare metal prep, then two coats of primer, and let it bake on with the heater then three coats of paint,if it starts to rust I will take it off and get it powder coated during the off season.
