SF Snake 4-29-09 - flyfishingfool - 04-30-2009 I hit the SF after work today and was finally able to end my little funk I was in. I got skunked all last week (other than a couple planters and some perch at Roberts Pond) I guess I shouldn't complain though, I have had a great year, as far as fishing goes. So I got to the river around 5:00 PM and started looking for another spot to fish. My other spot, when the river was at 14,000 isn't nearly as good anymore. I ended up catching 3 cutts, 2 browns, and 1 whitefish. I also somehow managed to snag a couple fish, but those don't count. Didn't catch anything to brag about but it sure was nice to catch some trout out of the river again. I also had a fun time trying out a new fly I tied up and it worked great. Always nice to catch fish on something you made up messing around. Tight lines. . . [signature] Re: [flyfishingfool] SF Snake 4-29-09 - ChrisTheFish - 04-30-2009 Sounds like fun. Generally speaking, I like to cast out on a floating line, let it sink for 5 or 6 seconds, then strip in half to one second intervals. If the fish are rising up top I will usually only sink it a couple seconds. That usually does the trick for me for fish feeding on the surface. When I am fishing really high water like yesterday, I put on my heavy sinking line, let it sink to the bottom, then strip it in slowly. When the water is lower and there are actual riffles to fish, I like to dead drift it through with a nymph dropper. Yesterday I dropped a rubber legs off the bottom and that worked great. The woolly bugger is my number one go to fly. Thats the first thing I will usually throw out if I am at a river I have never fished before. [signature] |
