Willard 17 may - reelfast - 05-18-2009

Wow all those folks at Willard today and no posts? Idahofishin and I got out about 2 pm. Not much wind. We found a couple walleye with blue shad raps and a pair of crappie on orange crawdad shad raps. Couldn't stay late. I was hoping to find out if the crappies bit well in the N marina. The two we got out on the lake have not spawned. The water temp is 65 but 5 feet down its 57. So the spawn is still on. Anyway its time for ice cream and rest

Glad to hear you guys caught a few. When I got back from SLC I started working on the boat and forgot to call you back. Good to hear the water temp is finally starting to climb. Hopefully the wiper catching will improve soon[Wink]. How big were the walleye?

It was hot and buggy with out that wind blowing. The walleye were 16 and 21. The crappie were about 10s. Several boats pulled into the stick ups on the North east side but would leave after they didn't catch. We didn't venture north of pelican beach. I think next weekend is going to be banner fishing in most of the low elevation lakes. Also how about that Villa derby. I wonder how they did over there. Really expected to see some posts on that. Anyway always good to get out for some nice weather for a change. Beats the crap out of a tornado.

Hey,Dan
I didn't see you out there I was looking for BFT guys but didn't see anyone.
I got on the water late I think I dropped in around 11:30 and went striaght to the X.well I wasn't disappointed and had wiper action for a good hour. and boated 11 wipers and then.a couple of boats saw me catching and kept trolling over my spot[frown] well it didn't take long until the fish where pushed out so I started to move around a bit to try to find out where they went. They didn't move out very far and caught three more in about a half hour, but again the same two boats came right out and started trolling the spot and the fish moved again.Instead of finding the fish again I just left the area,I fished freeway bay for about an hour wasn't marking many so I hit the sw corner, light pole, north dike, west dike.open water with not much success.so I went over to the out let put the poles in and sat down looked back and one of the rods was bouncing,I reeled it in and it was a 12" crappie.I trolled for another hour in a half in the north east corner a boated one more wiper and called it a day.Water temp when I left was 69 degrees. The kicker I put on the boat worked great and it was nice not burning up half a tank of gas trolling.

It was after 2 that we go out there. You hit them just right. I noticed that groups of boats would show up and fish an area then all bail out after a while. We spent a good part of our time fishing for crappies in the sticks. One thing about crappies is if they are bitting they will draw a crowd. Didnt see any boat clusters so figured they were off the bite. I may have to go back to focusing on wipers. Last year on Memorial day we had a 50+ fish day. Just have to be there when they hit the feed bucket.

"Wow all those folks at Willard today and no posts?"

If it was as slow for others as it was for us, I can see why so few posts have been listed. Just one 20" wiper for us Saturday evening.
Saw one boat with several crappies from out of the north marina area, and a couple of wipers to go with it. But that was all we saw.
