Fire restrictions - hedgesd - 06-24-2003

FYI: I just learned that the BLM is starting their fire restrictions this weekend and probable the Forest Service also but not for sure. It does put a damper on the camping situation but I'm sure we all have gotten used to it by now.

Either way I'll still be enjoying the great outdoors.

The only actuall fire restrictions in place at this time are in Zions Natioanl Park and in Salt Lake County. Please see: http://www.ut.blm.gov/Fire/restrictions.htm

That page hasn't been updated for a week. I was just out there and that's what I was told. Check that site this weekend and you'll see.

You are right, between last night and just now, it has been updated. However the restrictions are still not state wide. The only addition to Zions and Salt Lake County is what they are calling "Color Country" which is South West Utah and includes the counties of Washington, Kane, Garfield, Iron and Beaver. I live down south so it I was just passing on the words so somebody doesn't get a ticket for something stupid like a cooking fire.

Give it a week and it'll be state wide. Just a prediction.

yeppers I think your right. It's cheaper to restrict fires and issue fines than to pay to fight them. Hey heres a thought, when we were kids they taught us how to make safe fires. Maybe they should start that program again.

They are probable under a lot of pressure after that dumb lady started that fire in Colorado. Oh well I'm not going to argue about it with the professionals.

I guess I got a lot of respect for somebody who can get a job done when everybody who doesn't know anything about it has more say then they do.
