I have never caught Perch. I have always wanted to, and have even tried a few times, but have never caught any. People say that the best place to fish for perch is Deer Creek. Any pointers would be appreciated. I dont have a boat or a float tube, so I will be fishing from the shore. Advice from people I know are to use a small hook with a piece of worm below a bobber about 15 feet from shore and adjacent to weeds, brush, overhanging trees, etc.

ive always cought em close to the bottom in deeper watter ..kind of like walleye fishing..never fished em in shallow..

[cool][#0000ff]Deer Creek is NOT the best place to catch perch. It used to have a huge population of perch, before the walleyes and smallmouth ate them all. Perch are a rare catch in DC these days.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There are not many places where you can realistically target perch from shore. All of the formerly better perch waters are currently in decline and even savvy perch jerkers with boats and good sonar are having difficulty finding and catching any numbers of perch. Randomly casting from shore is not a high percentage way to catch them when their numbers are down. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]That being said, it is just about time for the perch to move in closer to shore wherever there are enough of them to pursue. I would try Jordanelle. Fish along the steep banks near the Rock Cliff launch ramp or on either side of the PWC launch at Hailstone. Fish a piece of worm near the bottom or cast small jigs tipped with worm. That will also get you some smallmouths and an occasional rainbow. Keep moving until you find fish. Once you find them there will usually be others in the area and you can keep catching them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Up until now, the perch have been staying out in deeper water. It has been a long cold spring, with water temps staying below 65 in many spots. Once it warms past that the perch will sometimes feed in fairly shallow water. They come in to chase the small perch fry from this year's spawn, so small lures often work well. Try working a little spinner parallel to the shoreline in 10 to 12 feet of water. Adding a piece of worm can help.[/#0000ff]

A place where it is very easy to catch perch is Fish Lake. Just to go the Lakeside Marina (the first one you come to as you enter the valley) and fish on the outside of the marina (fishing inside the marina is prohibited). Put a small hook with a little bit of bait a foot or two below a bobber, cast it out, and you won't have to wait long. We took our kids there last week and caught lots! The downside is that they aren't very big. They're still fun to catch, and if you get enough and fillet them they make a nice meal.
If you have a boat or float tube, you can go out farther and fish just off the weed beds. FIshing for perch there is usually even better. Even if you don't have a boat or tube, you can do the same thing if you just wait about six months and go ice fishing.

A few summers ago I used to fish Rockport a lot and did really well for perch in the evening off the dam. One night I caught over 100 perch and smallmouth, mostly on my fly rod. The perch were decent sized too, most in the 10" plus range. I haven't been up there for a few years, so I'm not sure how they're doing now.

i was in vernal for a few days and went to steinkar res. and there is a part with a scenic bridge walk thingy and just get a very small mustad hook throw 1 salmon egg on it float it underneath a bobber once night we caught about125 in 3 hours

Pineview is killer right now, we where fishing right next to the cemetery and we must of cough about 20 good size perch and a ton to dinks but it was fun and this was right of the shore too.
