Fishlake N.P. or Boulder Mtn. area - bigbrown - 07-12-2009 My boss and I are going to be in Junction at the end of this month for work and I'm interested in doing some river or creek fishing or bust out the float tube on some lakes. Mostly I would like to find a place where there are some good brookies not just the 6" to 12" ones in the uintas. If someone would be willing to share info that would be great. Boulders are a ways away, but that would be your bet for a big brook. Looks like I gotta go find a map.[laugh] Ok found a map. Now I know where you are going. I would recommend contacting the national forest in the area. They may actually have some better information that is updated. They would also know the better fishing holes. [signature] Re: [bigbrown] Fishlake N.P. or Boulder Mtn. area - JustJim - 07-12-2009 Fish Lake would take you an hour to get to. In Junction, you're 5 minutes from Piute Res. Piute is good for rainbows. Good tubing if the wind isn't blowing. The Sevier river is pretty murky now with the irrigation water running. The East Fork of the Sevier River above Piute (Kingston Canyon) isn't too bad now. It's running pretty good but I think it's fishable. Jujnction is about 20 minutes from Otter Creek Res. That had been very good for rainbows in the 14-18" range. Higher up, Monroe Mtn is on the east side of Piute. You can access via Dry Creek north of Piute Res. Manning Meadow Res opens this week. Artificials only for Bonneville Cutts. There is also stream fishing for small Cutts and Brookies. Hope this helps. Good luck! He could help you more on that side. Over by Fish Lake there are several. Johnson, Mill Meadow and Forsyth. 2 hours should put you down toward the boulder as well. For tubing on a high mountain lake I'd highly recommend Manning on the Monroe. No brookies, but i think it's one of the prettiest spots around. There are some small brookies in the Box Creek streams up there too. I don't think you'll be bored. There is plenty of opportunities around here. The majority of boulder lakes are on the east and south slopes and the plateau. You're going to have to drive through wayne county or go south to highway 12 which takes you to alot of the good lakes on the south slope. [signature] Re: [bigbrown] Fishlake N.P. or Boulder Mtn. area - nkunz - 07-13-2009 A couple of others you might consider checking out are Panguitch and Red Creek res. east of Paragonah. I don't think there are any brookies but some real nice rainbows. [signature] Re: [bigbrown] Fishlake N.P. or Boulder Mtn. area - brookie - 07-13-2009 Blue Lake and Purple Lake both have brooke trout, not particularly big and not a lot of fish. Row Lake nearby is generally planted with good numbers of rainbow. You will need a high clearance vehicle to go the last few miles (Blue and Purple). If you have a real rock crawler, Spectacle Lake (relatively near by) may still have some cutthroats. Roads to most of the lakes on the Boulders are real gear busters. There are some good brookies on the boulders, but most are going to be a hike or tough drive and most people that know which of the 70 or so lakes have good fish, will be pretty tight lipped. I live in Utah county and have taken a couple trips down each year for the last 3 years. I've fished quite a few lakes and caught fish on most. I even made it to a lake that I am sure holds good fish however I have yet to catch a brooke over 12 inches. I think on a side trip from Junction, I would focus on lakes or streams such as Forsythe, Fish Lake, UM Creek, Freemont River or that Kinston River mentioned above.
