My son and future son in law were both deployed this month and are currantly at camp pandleton on their way over in oct. Both just got engaged in july , So it gives me a few more grey hairs ( or more bald spots) It's good to see a little of what they'll be facing

Looking at these, I wondered what the "Hook thing" is that has been mounted on the hood of many of those HumVees pictured. Does anybody know what they use it for?

They are for sling loading under a chopper to get you from point A to B quicker... We did this alot in Turkey back in the day....

Bigbassaholic is talking about the sling rings.... the hook "thing".... a chain is usually hung off of that and it is in the down position while the vehicle is moving in order to hit trip lines (wires) or catch pins for mines instead of the vehicle running over the IED or mine.
