Great day on Trial (no not in court) - MaDFisher55 - 09-08-2009

My son Mike and I almost ran into albinotrout and his flotillia, but we changed our minds at the last minute and went to Trial. After spending all day sunday making some changes on my Pac 80 frame and since the knife incident rendered my toons usless I put the new discovery 8 IR's under it, loaded Mikes 15' Lead Canoe and away we went.

All the changes I made on the Pac 80 worked wonderfully. Even in the on and off wind we had there it worked flawlessley.

I have not had that much fun fishing since I was 8 or 9 fishing my Grandfather. The Bows in Trial will eat anything but I used an Olive bugger and a red sparkel bugger they could not resist. Stoped counting at 12 or 13 and probally got to high 20's most being in the 10 and 12 range. Kept a 13, 14 and 15" for dinner tomorrow.

Mike struggled with his "lead canoe" with the wind but he had a great time with about 10.

The daughter and her boyfriend came up to fish for a while while Momma labored on Labor day.

Im Hooked!

FG, thanks so much I appreciate your offer. TD has ordered me a first aid kit when he ordered one for his "road rashed" tube. I am in no hurry as my kids dont have their waders as of yet so im using the Discovery 8's on my frame.

Id be interested in buying a small chunk from you to have on hand for that on the spot boo boo fix? Or if you can tell me if its still available and where to get it?

I really do appreciate all of your help. Everyone here had been wonderful.

[cool][#0000ff]Got the patch kits in today's mail.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But, I would be willing to trade some smoked kittyfish for some of that tape. Seems like a tuber or tooner with urethane bladders should never leave home without it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Out of smoked goodies right now but will definitely reserve some of the next batch for ya.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Goin' fishin' (Starvation) Thursday but will be home and available Friday and most of the weekend. Let me know when you have open and I can put you on my dance card. (For the pontoon repair, silly)[/#0000ff]

Im happy to know you mean the pontoon repair TD, I'd have to lead and would probally flatten your toes if the date was for dancing!

I will send you a PM and let you know if Friday or Sat works for me.

And thanks so much for smoked kitty how to! I have never caught a catfish before but looking forward to it.

[cool][#0000ff]I'm thinking we need another kitty floatilla here soon. When the water starts cooling the cats go on the chew...big time. I always catch some of my biggest cats of the year in the fall.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Once we get your "surgery patient" recovered you can become Ahab of the catfish. We will let you and Kevin plan the timing so that all concerned will be able to attend.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You're right. No dancing. Two guys both trying to lead just wouldn't work. Plus, TubeBabe would probably frown on that...or laugh a lot.[/#0000ff]

TD, have you ever tried this same thing only with smoking Trout?

[quote MaDFisher55]TD, have you ever tried this same thing only with smoking Trout?[/quote]

[cool][#0000ff]Short answer. YES. Only with trout it is better to soak them in a seasoned brine solution and then smoke them for a much shorter time. Trout have a much more delicate flesh and do not require as much time in the smoker to achieve the right stage of smoky-cooking. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Everybody who smokes trout has their own personal favorite recipes for brining, seasoning, choice of woods, length of time in the smoker, etc. I love smoked fish of all kinds...including trout...but I just do not smoke many other species besides catfish these days.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In the past, I have smoked many different species from both fresh water and salt water...including shark, sturgeon, yellowtail, tuna, barracuda, halibut, rockfish, striper, salmon, steelhead, several species of trout and even carp. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Actually, the smoked carp turned out great and was a big hit with my fishing buddies in California. They were accustomed to coming over to watch football at my place and raiding my smoked salmon and steelhead supply. After catching a couple of big carp I carefully deboned them and brined and smoked the chunks just the way I did with salmon and steelhead. The guys found the newly smoked fish and wolfed it down...proclaiming it to be some of the best smoked salmon I had ever made. Only then did I tell them it was NOT salmon. Funny looks all around but nobody got "Capistrano fever" (return of the swallows).[/#0000ff]

I used to smoke salmon, but I found that the papers wouldn't stick very well, and they kept going out.

Re: [TubeDude] Great day on Trial (no not in court) - MaDFisher55 - 09-10-2009

Thats funny stuff. I just may have to invest in a smoker. Albinotrout just brought me over some NAFC videos one of which is how to cook a bunch of salmon and white fish dishes. I just drooled thru the whole video!

Im all for catch and release, but a man has to eat too!

Thanks for the reply.

With the exception of Albacore tuna and rock cod, I don't much enjoy eating fish, so I am a zero-limit catch and release fisherman.
